Symbolic Novels: 1984 By George Orwell

The novel 1984 by George Orwell is popular today as it was decades ago.

The story depicts an oppressive dystopian government that outlaws pretty much everything that remotely represents free thought, while misleading the citizens about the ongoing wars, rationed food, rewriting past news in light of today's biases, and watching over every aspect of the individual's life.

The story was meant as a critique of Communism and Communists governments at the time, namely the Soviet Union. It was twice made into a movie.
