Another scam via Craigslist: offering more than asking price

Here is a classic scam from Craigslist.

They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).

They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico

Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Craiglist scam Lisa Coulbary and Steve Carl

I thought it was a bit odd that i would receive a request for 2 seperate items that I posted. The items were not even posted near each other in the posting list. Perhaps the scammers smelled new blood.

Fortunately, I did not respond.

SETH PETERS SCAM

I won't go into detail because this is virtually the same scam, I'm just wondering what would happen if I tried to cash the 3 money orders I received instead of depositing them. Am I putting myself at risk and how?

I would be the money orders

I would be the money orders are fake -- we called moneygram and the numbers on the ones we got were used earlier this year -- so you could be at risk.......

this was very similar to one

this was very similar to one I got -- what I don't understand is what are they hoping that people will cash the 'fake' money orders and send them money or? We called the police and they wanted nothing to do with this.......so people can just go around sending off fake money orders and no one cares -- what if someone does cash them? Aren't they considered fraudulent?

Same e-mail - word-for-word!

I received exactly this same e-mail today. What I can't figure out is what the scam is. I mean, the item I'm selling is big so there is no way I'm going to ship it. He's only "including" $30 extra that is apparently mine to keep. If I fell for this what would he be getting?

I decided to e-mail back (pretending I'm not aware of the scam) and tell him, again, that I will only accept cash. I didn't give him any of the info he was asking for, either. I wonder what comes next...

My 15 yr old was ready to

My 15 yr old was ready to ship out his iPod to some women who promised him extra money for sending it to her. I never read any of the emails but he was using my paypal to accept the payment so I received the email stating that the payment was pending and would be until i sent the tracking number/confirmation of shipment. I know enough about paypal to know that even pending payments show up when you log in. Even called paypal, who said it was most likely a scam. Glad i checked into it... Sad he hasnt to start learning early how ruthless people will be.

Same sh*t

Look out for Mac McDourcy...Same as above, the best part is I'm selling a bass amp for 1500 bucks, his reason for not contacting me over the phone was that he "have problem with the hearing"...stupid F*ker. He still sent the check drawn on a bank that is no longer around in Texas, from an address in NJ for $5950.00, fake money is still fake money
