3D simulation of the airplane hitting the WTC tower on 9/11

Researchers at Purdue University build a scientifically accurate 3D simulation of the World Trade Center tower when the airplane hit it.

Among their conclusions:

  • The weight of 39,000 liters of fuel was a major factor in the collapse.
  • The fire that ensued damaged the fireproofing and the steel columns weakened.
  • The airplane disintegrated as it swept through the building.
