Iraq

On the Iraq front, there is a very real risk of civil war emerging from the sectarian strife that is going on there. The chaos created there have caused the country to become a haven for terrorist groups and figures (like Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi). More importantly, invading Iraq hasa caused terrorism to become a cause that many flock to.

The UN Secretary General, now nearing the end of his term, says that the Iraq war is a disaster for the Middle East, and warns of a full scale civil war there.

The US Senate clearly stated that Saddam and Al-Qaeda are not linked.

An UN anti-torture expert saying that torture is worse after Saddam.

A US Intelligence report affirming that the Iraq situation fuels terrorism. It describes Iraq as a cause celebre for jihadists. A UK Ministry of Defence report states that the Iraq war acted as a recruiting sargeant for extremists.

Afghanistan

Afghan president Hamid Karzai tells the UN general assembly that military action alone cannot stop terrorism.

Not only are the Taleban back with a vengeance, but an international think tank, Senlis Council, authored a report saying that the Taleban taking back Afghanistan.

Five years after 9/11, Bin Laden and al-Zawahiri are still on the loose.

War on Terror

Half of those polled think that the UK is losing the war on terror. France rejects the concept of a war on terror.

A new poll says that most Canadians blame blame the US for 9/11.
