Schools of Fish in the Red Sea

It is a fascinating experience to see an entire ecosystem in action, and no where this is easily possible than in a coral reef.

Various species of fish have different behavior. Some are solitary, some gather in small schools, and yet others form huge schools.

A school of black surgeon fish roams the area where the surf breaks. This is a very oxygen rich area, and also has lots of sunlight. The black surgeon fish are like barbarian nomadic hordes and raid the algal patches that are staked by other settled species, such as the Sohal surgeon fish, and damsel fish, and you see fights happening where ever they go.
A group of spotted snappers frequent the part where the reef is bordered by sandy stretches.
