Another scam via Craigslist: offering more than asking price
Submitted by Khalid on Tue, 2006/08/08 - 10:12Here is a classic scam from Craigslist.
They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).
They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

Hello,
Thanks for your concern and your comittment in considering the present condition with my husband, which is most concern to all the family.
I am most sorry for just getting back to you now, it was as a result of my being with him all the days in the hospital. We have bought a lot of drugs and they are all expensive and now, the doctor advice us to let him undergo medical operation for speedy recovery.
I saw your mail and I understand the content. The check is already mailed to you, via usps(regular mail) and you will receive it on friday. Please I beg of you to help us send at least $500 to us today out of the $1,500 over payment and you are free to deduct it back when the payment check get to you. We need it urgently to add with the money we have been able to gather together here, so that he can go for the operation in time tomorrow, as I cannot withstand again, the pains he is passing through.
Please make use of the below information and still help us send the $500 today or first thing tomorrow, if you cannot meet up again today.

we just got THAT EXACT MESSAGE. we are not dealing with them, so sad people feel the need to scam :(
Hello, I appreciate your
Hello,
I appreciate your response to my inquiry. Am interested in buying
your household item. I would have loved to come, check it out myself but
I just got married and am presently on honeymoon to Hawaii with my wife.
I would love some surprise inclusions and replacements in our home on
our return.
Please do withdraw the advert from craigslist as I wouldn't mind
adding $20 for you to take it down, so that I can be assured that the item
is held for me. I should believe it is in good condition as stated in the ad.
I will be making the payment via a Certified Check, which my secretary will
mail across to you.
I'll be picking the item from you with the aid of a mover. My Mover
will be coming to pick it from you once the Certified Check has been
cashed. Please I will need both your full name and physical address
along with your phone number to issue out the payment.
Best wishes.

phishing email
Had an ad on craigslist, this guy emails me and asks me for my email address, I get an auto reply: "I am looking for 9 people who are serious about making money". SO Sick of these kinds of email, now they got me to respond to them. Very clever. Beware of this email address: jimmycollinsco08@gmail.com
STUPID SCAMS..
Scams are an easy thing for people to fall into. I fell into one on craigslist with Daniel Young at come2me.107@gmail.com. The email said..::
I really appreciate your response to my email. I want you to consider
it sold, pls do withdraw the advert from CL to avoid disturbance,
anyways I don't have time to come over to take a look
because of my Business but you don't need to bother yourself with the
shipment, I'll take care of that by engaging the services of a mover,
hence I'll be sending a bank certified check/money order and it will
be delivered to you via United Parcel Service (UPS), so I'll need you
to provide me with
the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check/money
order.
Full name on the check.
Full Physical address to post the check
City, State and Zip Code
Home & Cell Phone to contact you.
Note that the payment will be shipped to your address via
UPS NEXT DAY AIR SERVICE and I will like you to know that you will not
be responsible for shipping i will have my mover to come over
as soon as you have cashed the check
N.B UPS does not deliver to a P.O box addresses. Thanks
Most of the sccammers emails are lengthly in response, and they usually all say something similar such as getting a shipper/mover or giving you extra money and that they will take care of the shipping. I was offered 3650 for a 1200 product. That didn't seem right to me. So he did end up sending a check, from where...who knows..but the emails continued back and fourth as i was telling them i was not involved in shipping and that i was not selling the car to him if this was the case and if the amount wasn't recieved correctly the check would be sent back. I think i sent 5-10 emails stating this to Daniel Young. No response. If they're asking you to wire money, or send something overseas. If you have doubts, it's probably a scammer. Just be careful. We have that if you can't call and pick up the item yourself we don't make a sell.
Terry Lonn a real piece of work
Got an email from Terry Lonn also. This guy gets around. The same MO he states item not the item name. New email now tylonn1978@gmail.com. Watch out for this guy.
Hello,
I really appreciate your response to my inquiry. Im interested in
buying the Item from you. I would love to come and check it myself
but I just got married and im presently on my honeymoon trip to Hawaii
with my wife.I would love a surprise change of furniture in our home
on our return.Pls do withdraw the advert from Craigslist as i dont
mind adding $20 for you to do that, so i can be rest assured that the
item is held for me. I should believe it is in good condition as
stated. I will be making the payment via a certified Check, which my
secretary will mail to you. I'll be picking the item from you with the
aid of my mover. My Mover will be coming to pick it from you once the
Check has been cashed. Pls I will need both your full name and
physical address along with your phone number to issue out the
payment.
Thanks,
Terry
I got an email from "Henry
I got an email from "Henry Scott" saying he wants to buy my item, then his name and email changed to "Henry Thomas" he sent me a check for the amount of 2500.00 from a business in Florida. There is a website for the actual business but i still do not beleive it. He told me that his secretary "sent the wrong amount by accident" There is no way any human being can mistake 300.00 for 2500.00 i dont care how uneducated someone is.
My item was to only be sold for 300.00 he wanted me to keep the 300, and deduct another 100 for "my troubles" then wire him via western union the remaining balance to a different person's name in the United Kingdom!! I did cash the check, but i am NOT wiring him any money! This is definately a scam. I will just wait and pray for this to finally be over.
Beware for any emails from henrythomas_01@yahoo.com or henryscott01@gmail.com.
more of the same from hankswilliams@gmail.com
> Not quite sure how he intended to consummate the scam but here's the line he's pushing. He calls the stove an "item," craigslist by Craigs list, calls it an "advert," offers $50 more to withdraw ad and reports being in UK and sending the "item" to his sister in Ohio.
