In these pages, I describe how to make a Do It Yourself (DIY) Telescope Controller. That is, a piece of electronics that would at a minimum drive motors on the telescope to track the sky.
The features should be:
- GOTO functionality:
This means that the controller can move the motors precisely, so it can point to various objects of interest.
- Periodic Error Correction:
This means that it can record manual corrections to machining imperfections in the worm gear, and play them back so these imperfections are corrected.
- Autoguiding support:
The controller can use a closed feedback loop from a nearby star in the sky to correct its positionfor ever so small errors.
