I finally gave in and bought a GPS.
It is the Garmin StreetPilot c330. A family friend bought it and was happy with it. it was also on sale at Canadian Tire for C$329.
It comes with a quick start guide, but no manual. Not that it needs one for basic operations. The interface is very usable by anyone. Either select from categories, or enter an address, and it will take you there via voice prompts ("In 950 meters, turn left" then after a few seconds "turn left").
The built in battery charges from the cigarette lighter in the car. It has a windshield mounted suction cup.
The database for points of interest (POI) is rich. It has restaurants by category (e.g. Mexican, Asian, Steak, ... etc.), as well as every Tim Horton's!
It comes with a USB cable and software, which I have not yet opened.
It does not have the features of the handheld models used for trails, such as elevation, latitude/longitude, ...etc.

Returned it
Sat, 2007/05/26 - 18:38Well, I returned this unit to the store.
I have to say that it is very very easy to use, and has a very intuitive user interface. Its screen is bright too.
However, I wanted some of the advanced features, mainly what an outdoor handheld GPS would offer.
So, I tried the Magellan Crossover GPS (Roadmate 2500T).
