What a small world!
Sat, 2006/03/04 - 16:58Hi,
My name is Tamer El-Attar, I am an X-EGC also but class of 1994, I graduated from Alexandria Univ. in 1999 with an honor degree,
I got a scholership at Univ. of Miami USA, i did my masters and i m now doing my Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering.
Dr. Magdy taught me welding in my third year in production engineering dept. and i didnt know he was actually an X-EGC! , no wonder he was a well respected person and a wonderful serious teacher...
X-EGCs are all like that , we all loved him so much.
I actually played football with him at the sports day, and he was still skillful!

Mon, 2006/03/06 - 02:15Dear Tamer
I've read what you've written about me in Bahyeldin Dynasty.
Thanks a lot for it.
Normally when we do things, we do it to things we do it to the best of our knowledge.

Dr. Magdy El Rayes
Thu, 2006/07/27 - 19:02Dr. Magdy El Rayes as a talented footballer? And who can forget that experience?.
I played football against Dr. Magdy El Rayes, the game took place back in 1973. Then, I was in Middle One Vienna and Magdey was one year my senior, if memory serves me right. I was that talented proud goal keeper in the opposing team, who tried his best to keep a clean sheet, until that fatal moment when Magdy fired a shoot that I tried to block resulting, in me and the ball ending together inside the net. My right wrist was twisted trying to block his shoot, and I was in considerable agony all night that night with a swollen hand ... my right hand has swollen three times its normal size, I would say.
In the morning, my dad took me to University Hospital in El Shatbey, the hand was X rayed and I was given the all clear and was told not to play football or to be a goal keeper for two weeks.
After finishing my secondary school, I joined the Faculty of Engineering with Ashraf Abou El Dahab and Mahmoud El Nahass who were with me in the EGC. I opted out for joining Architecture Engineering Department where I found Ahmed Okeil another old friend from the EGC days he was a member of staff in the department then working hard on his Master degree.
Then I knew that Dr. Magdy El Rayes was a student at the Production Engineering Department with one of his best EGC friends, Habib (I don’t know his full name).
Dr Magdy was not only a talented footballer, but he also managed to keep a head full of hair when the vast majority of us lost theirs.

Hi
Tue, 2006/08/15 - 03:21Dear Dr. El Gowhary
I've just seen your mail. It's nice to find colleagues from all over the world. After 23 years i apologise for being the cause of swelling your hand and consequently not playing foot ball for 2 weeks!
In my last visit to Egypt i contacted Ashraf Abou El Dahab who is doing fine as a civil contractor in Cairo, and Habib Attallah who owns a textile company. I've not seen Mahmoud El Nahas since over the 3-4 years where i've visited him as a consultant to solve a problem in his steel construction company.
sincerely

Magdy, Berlin and shooting pool
Sat, 2007/01/20 - 16:44In 1991 I studied for six months in Berlin, Germany. In a run down student accomodation in Wasgenstrasse one of the residents was Magdy El-Rayes, Doctor-to-be from Egypt. A bunch of guys from that environment made it a habit meeting Friday evenings to shoot some pool and relax.
The most valuable conclusion from this German study-session for me was how such a blend of nationalities and interest could stay together and enjoy each others company. There was me (a Swede), there were French, Egyptian, Cameroonian, Azerbadjani, Mexican, American, Scottish, Korean, Indian etc. students getting along just fine in a confined space and environment.
Today, when I travel a lot professionally to many places in the world, I bear these moments with me and find confidence in knowing that in spite of what is going on in the world and in spite of polarisation between religions countries and interests, I know for a fact that people from different backgrounds can have fun together!
With Magdy I wanted, like with all opponents over a pool table or on a football field, to WIN! Judging from his friends description of the swollen hand, I am probably lucky to have played pool with him. I also remember winning although my wife would likely claim age is corrupting my memory. I certainly remember his great sense of humour, a good glimpse in the eye and some decisive missed shots. Keeping a cool head when studying the hot topic of welding technology is not easy!
All the best!

A small world indeed
Thu, 2012/04/12 - 07:25Not only Dr Magdy is a great football player but also a great professor.
I had the opportunity to be his student at Beirut Arab University in the Materials course. He also played soccer with our class-team and lead us to the finals in the engineering day event.
How I came here? I was doing a literature search on FSP (since I am working on it now) and found a 2012 publication by Dr Magdy; googled his name and here I am!
