April's Fool day is about practical jokes, humor and being creative in those.
Here is a roundup of today's pranks:
We start with Drupal first ...
Skiquel posted a working rickroll module for inclusion in Drupal 6.2 core. The module did work. I even cleaned up the code style (by hand) and submitted a patch and a couple of screen shots. The followups are hilarious.
In the Drupal News forum, someone posted a request for a Drupal developer to help with a site called Polar Bear Conservancy. The site claims to be a bipartisan effort in the USA to transport 3,000 polar bears from the Arctic to Antarctic. They almost got me and chx until he checked whois and found the domain was created on March 30, and hence just a joke.
Jeff Robbins of Lullabot posted his thoughts about closing the Drupal contrib reposity. Also, Angela (webchick) announced she is leaving the community (that would be the day)!
Fireflystream announced GLORilla, an ecumenic CMS based on Joomla and Drupal. Why leave out Wordpress? How about Java and Rails too? The funny part is that humor imitates reality: Last year at DrupalCamp Toronto, Alan Dixon was talking about CMS Ecumenism for real!
Outside of the Drupal realm, there was a lot of fun too ...
Google Adsense introduced Adsense for conversations, and on Google's Calendar, I saw a link to Google's Wakeup Kit. Google and Virgin teamed up for Virgle, recruiting for starting a civilization on Mars.
The CBC has a list of some more April's Fool jokes.

Dries commits the patch
Tue, 2008/04/01 - 22:54If you look at the rickroll issue a few minutes ago, you will find that Dries is playing along, and says he committed the patch and it needs to be ported!
However, the email sent out by the project module, says:
Dries, it does not count if your local time is after midnight, and hence it is April 2!

cwgordon had me on this one ...
Tue, 2008/04/01 - 23:02cwgordon7 had me on this one. He was the one who marked the issue as committed, then went and changed the comment later to say Dries ...
I guess issue followup as comments has its benefits. This would have never been possible without that.

Here is a funny email I got
Wed, 2008/04/02 - 09:45Now here is something more funny. For the Polar Bear Conservancy April Fool hoax, I got this today:
He thought I posted it, not someone else, and he was fooled into thinking it is real and offered help.
