Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

delivery, and payments for pick up made through western union money
transfer,I have transferred $1,950 usd into your account and i
expected pay pal to have notified you to this  effect.I added Extra
$950 usd but $850 usd will be sent to the Pick up agent address via
western union at any western union shop, extra $100 is to cover the
western union & pay pal fee.Pay pal said they will temporary hold the
fund until you email them the western union details for
verification(MTCN),and also to enable my pick up agent to come for
pick up and inspection. Here is the agent's details where the money

NEW SCAM!!

Mon, 2012/06/25 - 16:42

Hey so this dude goes by the name of Stepen McIntyre using the email maccano2@googlemail.com and after saying he wanted to purchase my item not saying how much he is offering just asking how old it is and then after I respond he goes on to reply this:

"Thanks for the mail, I will like to purchase your item note you will not be responsible for the handling and shipping of the item, my shipping company will come to your location for the pick up kindly confirm to me with your full name and address so that I can have it forward to the shipping company for them to calculate the shipping cost to me for the shipping to commence on time right?"

So yeah... According to the scam patterns on CL over the years this is fishy.. Needless to say I will not e replying or giving him any more info. Be careful!!!

Thu, 2012/07/12 - 01:32

Maccano2@googlemail.com sent the exact email to me about my furniture for sale post on CL. Sounds fishy. Why would someone offer to buy used furniture, sight unseen, no questions asked AND pay to ship it to a far away location? Sounds too good to be true? It probably is. Take caution.

He has used both these emails. Unfortunately for me, i'm stupid, I was so caught up in the excitement of finally selling my item, I just didn't see it. In Hines sight I missed every obvious sign. He took me for a good amount, too. Slightly different story than Jonathan, close though. He had the nerve to contact me again acting all confused about what had happened, then asked me to send him another $500 so he knows he can trust me then would have the shipping company send back the other money. Seriously, dude? You temporarily ruined my life enough. Hopefully there will be a class action lawsuit against this guy/girl some day.
