ChangeEverything.ca bloggers help homeless in winter storm

  1. Home

By Khalid on 2006/11/30 - 00:07, last updated 2022/11/17 - 16:02

A while back, I wrote about ChangeEverything.ca, which aims to rally together people who want to change themselves, their community and the world.

The site uses Drupal 4.7, and some custom modules that I wrote for the good folks at SocialSignal. Two modules, favorite nodes, and SpreadFireFox affiliates, got released to the community.

Now, the site has shown that it can be a good force for change in practice, not just people writing blogs.

In British Columbia, the winters are usually mild. But this year, there has been a freak snow storm in British Columbia, that left a lot of snow on the ground and unusually cold temperatures.

So, bloggers at ChangeEverything.ca joined forces to help the homeless by donating clothes and blankets. The media picked up on this with coverage from the The Province, as well as the Globe and Mail.

This is not the first time the media covers ChangeEverything.ca, but is certainly the first one with a social aspect and not a technical one.

Thanks to all the Drupal community, and the ChangeEverything.ca folk for helping fellow humans in need.

Involuntary Homelessness

Sat, 2006/12/30 - 11:50

Involuntary homelessness is proof of the civilization fallacy. What's civil about people organized as a society, allowing fellow human beings to suffer unnecessarily? The worst is how our societies tend to blame the victims. After all, most of these people suffer from medical conditions, which in most cases was the cause for ending up on the street in the first place, as their personal situation didn't allow to live according to what is regarded as "normal" and "proper".
