Cranes in migration is a sight to behold.I recall seeing cranes in Istanbul Turkey in the early 1990s, circling and calling over the city. Also, in Jeddah, I saw cranesseveral times, where it is a stop on their route from Eurasia to Africa. Jeddah must be a conspicuous marker on the Red Sea coast, and among the Hijaz mountain range, and the deserts around it. They are seen over the al-Andalus district (Palestine Road), and the Old Airportarea. I have a video tape of them somewhere.

Today, while driving in Waterloo, Ontario, I saw three sandhill cranes flying south. Their stretched out neck, and grey color was the clear mark of this species.This brought memories of cranes in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Rockwood is a small village about 15 to 20 minutes east of Guelph, Ontario on Highway 7.

Rockwood Conservation Area is part of the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA), since the Eramosa River joins with the Speed River, which then joins the Grand River in Cambridge, Ontario.

While canoeing the Rockwood Conservation Area yesterday, we saw a beaver swimming with only the eyes and nostrils visible out of the water.

Today at the Belwood Lake Conservation area, we saw several interesting bird species. Of course, we saw the common and ever visible ones, such as robins, blue jays, Canada geese, mallard ducks, and even a great blue heron.

Today, I saw my first Red Fox in Ontario. I was not aware that foxes were native to Ontario until this encounter.I was at the Laurel Creek Conservation Area, which is a nature area at the edge of the city of Waterloo, used for picnics, camping and other recreational activities here.On the way out, about 7:45 pm (one hour before sunset), we saw a fox crossing the road, and disappearing in the bushes. It had the typical dark extremities, and white tail tip.You can read more on the Red Fox in Ontario.
