Sometime back, I posted an article about a scam email that I got. Basically, it was from someone who offered to buy something from me. It turns out that they offer to send more money than the item is worth, provided you wire the difference back to them. The cashier cheque turns out to be forged, and you lose money in the deal. This time, it is from someone who wants to buy Land Rover Turbochargers in Uganda! I don't own nor sell Land Rover, nor any other 4x4 vehicle. However, my brother Omar has had successive Land Rovers and uses them for desert safaris in Egypt, for example, hare hunting or Rayyan Valley. As a matter of fact, he called me yesterday from Siwa where he was offroading with some friends. This seems to be how Mr. "Mathew" below have decided to catch my interest. I am glad to introduce my self to you. I am called John MathewMANAGING DIRECTOR, living in Uganda and operating a business in thenames ofSTAR MOTORS LTD Is a well established company based in Uganda , EastAfrica dealing in land rover spare parts.I am inquiring whether you will be in position to supply us with 15 pcsof ORIGINAL TURBO CHAGERS FOR LANDROVER VEHICLES TDI 300.Please please quote cif ENTEBBE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.{EAST AFRICA} best regards, John mathew. The email however, was star_motorsltd@yahoo.co.uk. Sorry Mr. Mathew, but I will have to disappoint you on this.

Legtimate business men in Uganda always use thier family names on every business proposals. Secondly do u sell computers? if no! donot waste your time with him it is a scam.If u are selling computers, give the price quotations but donot accept cheque payments. My anlysis it is 90% a scam / fraud.

Wed, 2008/02/27 - 12:02We have recently recieved an inquiry from Uganda , this guy asked us to issue a PI after exchanging few emails and offered to pay through cheque,In fact we have been always aware of african scams but never heard of this kind before.
We did some research on the net and found some forums about Ugandan Cheque scams.We told him to keep the cheque. We are sending his info to related authoritites.

the name he is using in emails is " Julius" and "hakitar Zhang" but we are sure these are indeed fake names.
The best and safe way to deal with african buyers is to never deal on thier terms, insisit on payment through TT and nothing else.

Fri, 2009/05/01 - 06:53I received the same recently and have the cheque sent to my bank.I knew better however not to despatch goods before funds are in my account.I did inform the client this as well but he still sent the cheque, Now I need to set them up to get caught , but I am sure all the officals are corrupt as well.

Hello thanks for your e-mail plz you can convice your bank but the cheque is take 8 to 14days to get the money but you can convice your bank to give you the maney and the cheque cashed in that piriod because we have the dimand for that goods plz let us know your final.

Wed, 2008/11/19 - 08:07I posted a guitar that I had for sale on Gumtree and forgot about it. I later got an email which I was instantly suspicious of due to the wording etc.
I pointed correspondence to my work address for added security on a personal level and Last week I received a cheque for little on £6,000...funny, since the guitar is only worth about £400!
Thought I would check this out and im glad my assumptions were correct!
If I was to bank the cheque, am I right in thinking that there would be no way that the 'person' glean any personal details from my account?!
