Mystery shopper falls for money order fraud

  1. Home
  2. Internet Scams and Fraud

By Khalid on 2010/02/23 - 16:18, last updated 2010/02/23 - 16:18

A woman in Edmonton lost $1,300 to fraudsters posting as a mystery shopper company.

The company, called Regent Research, posed a consumer research firm, and the applicant was given an assignment. They sent a money order for $1,500, and asked her to wire the $1,300 to a fake cousin in the UK.

By the time the bank discovered that the money order was fake, she has already sent the $1,300 out, and forever lost them to the scam.

The company's web site displayed the Better Business Bureau logo, also fake.

shameful!

this kind of thing is really shameful, i hate how people take advantage of others like this but at the same time, everyone needs to be more careful, unfortunately, it's the ones who need the money the most who are most likely to get scammed

What a Shame

Fri, 2010/02/26 - 23:57

It's kind of sad how many scams there are out there these days. $1300 is quite a large chunk of change to lose to a scam. Any amount lost to someone pulling a scam isn't good but this poor woman lost a lot of money.

Mystery Shoppers

Mon, 2012/06/11 - 12:27

Please dont fall for this mystery shopping scam. They actually thought I would put their fake money order in my account and send them money. People, please do your homework. I called the post office, the money order fraud division and now I am about to call the police. Dont be fooled. If it's too good to be true "THEN IT IS".
