Roberto Adams is still at it - 6/16/09
Wed, 2009/06/17 - 02:01I'm in the process of being scammed by this Roberto Adams character. Because of your posts, I've reported him to my bank to investigate his payment. It deposited successfully, but he called with a beligerent Nigerian voice from a BLOCKED number and requires me to go to a Moneygram. (I worked with 5 Nigerians for 7 years, so this is not a guess - that was definitely a Nigerian accent, which threw a serious red flag for me!)
Everything is EXACTLY how others have indicated, so now I'm just hoping my bank will help me not get screwed. I will report the whole process and all his emails later. For now, I'll take any advice on how to stop the scam before he gets any of my money!
Summary: I posted something on CL, he emailed me to buy it. He said he was sending payment. Before I got it, he said the mover messed up and overpaid. I didn't receive the overpayment for 2 weeks and it was dated after he made this claim. I'm so naive, I can't believe I cashed it instead of sending it back to him or whatever.
I waited for the check to clear, it did, the money appears in my bank. He refuses to accept any payment other than his Moneygram (another red flag). I wanted to wait a few days to make sure that the payment wouldn't be rejected by my bank before paying out. (Luckily!)
He called me today, as the check just cleared, from a blocked number and was very rude. He even hung up on me, and he sounded like he was in a hurry the whole time. It was very disturbing, no mention of the item he was buying - just that his mover would handle that after I paid him - and so I investigated and found these articles...
I have reported the deposit as fraudulent, my bank is investigating before I proceed.
ADVICE?!!!

kygary@gmail.com is a scammer!!!!!!!!
Wed, 2009/07/29 - 15:57kygary@gmail.com is at it again. "She" told me to send my ipod touch to her stepson in Nigeria. She claimed once I give her the tracking number she would send the money to me via paypay. Well obviously it never happened and I had already sent the ipod. A true piece of scum in the world and it's probably a guy posing as a girl. Sad.

New to Craigslist
Thu, 2009/06/18 - 12:36Being a fairly educated person, I got some strange emails regarding a posting for an iPod that I listed. I'm glad the red flags went off for me - this was the first time I've ever used craigslist.
The first email came from a "Bella Rose" and simply offered me $50 less than I asked for, but was worded strange. Also implied she lived very close (even named the town) and could pick it up. I replied back with a counteroffer. No response.
Then I get an email from an "Anna Ince" asking if item is still for sale. I respond with an affirmative. The reply I get is from a different email address but evidently the "same" person. This is the response...
"Hi,
Thanks for the mail...i was introduced to this site by a friend at work and i will like immediate purchase of this item for my Niece 'Bella' who is away of the state and been requesting for this item...i will offer you $250 including the shipping charges to her.. there because she is in need of it as a matter of urgency and due to my work i don't have time to handle the shipping..i will want you to help me handle the shipping very well to her..Get back to me with your confirmed PayPal email address so that i can send the payment..
Get back to me asap...
Anna"
So now I know that this is fishy...offering me $100 more than I was asking and requesting my Paypal email.
But it get's better! I respond that the item was sold (since I know its a scam) and the respone I get is as follows:
"do you have another item up for sale?get back asap"
So apparently they aren't picky with what they want to purchase. I responded (trying to be a smartass) and said I had a Playstation 2...but no more iPods. I actually got this response...
"Okay get back with the final price and your paypal email so i can send the fund..
Anna.."
What a racket. Be very careful if you are using the service so you don't fall for this crap.

Craig's List Scammers
Fri, 2009/06/19 - 12:56Watch out for terrymart01@gmail.com
He gave the same story as the others. Wants to buy furniture site unseen and offers to pay additional $20 to take add down off of Craig's list. Then second e-mail explains that his secretary incorrectly wrote the check out for $2550, when the furniture is only $150. Asked us to wire the difference to his movers. We're are told that check would arrive via courier next day, but check does not arrive. Instead another e-mail comes two days later stating that check will come via UPS by the next day and offers an additional $50 to us. Check arrives and date on check is 4 days beyond the original date that supposedly the incorrect amount was written. Obvious, he had ample time to correct error on check. Check does not have any name or address on it. From Chase Bank and stated Oklahoma City University. Return address on UPS is the address of a house that is for sale in Texas by a person of a different name. Wiring info has another different name. We ripped the check up and asked terrymart01@gmail.com to stop communicating with us.

Received almost the exact
Sun, 2009/06/21 - 11:04Received almost the exact same e-mail from Anny Bell (anny.bell1000@gmail.com):
Hello ,
I just receive the confirmation from the Bank that the payment as
been issued out and was mailed by the UPS courier but am very sure
that you will receive the payment very soon but
my secretary made a little mistake which we are still looking forward
to settle but never mind to bear with the situation , she made a
mistake by sending along the mover funds i owed them in the last
transaction we had, so the total you will be receiving now is
$1,900,she claimed that she thought i said she should send you a check
of $1,900,But i guess she didn't get it straight. But that should not
disturb our own transaction, but i have called the bank not to stop the
payment, that you will surely take care of the money the way you can
handle your own money, please take the check to your Bank and have it
cashed as advised by the accounting officer at the Bank.
You will then deduct the cost of my purchase plus an extra $100 to
offset the cost of your run around expenses. The rest of the fund
should be sent to my mover via western union
the same day you receive the payment so that my mover can make the
trip over for the pick
at once. Also i want to inform you that UPS have a technical problem
and that is why there is
a delay on my end but with the patient you have everything is going to
be in order as soon
as possible.
**I will need your immediate response via email assuring me that i
can trust you to handle
this with care and have the remaining fund returned appropriately,.I
am hearing impaired
and will hope that your intentions remains noble though out the
duration of this transaction**
Thanks.
