  3. Email Scam: Winning a Fake Lottery

By Khalid on 2008/06/26 - 10:00, last updated 2008/06/26 - 10:00

Another scam that claims one has won half a million Euros and a new Audi Car. None of that is true of course. The usual "keep it confidential" clause is there.

Grammer errors

Thu, 2018/01/04 - 02:54

You can tell it is a scam because of the grammar errors. Example is if you look at the commas as it says in the second line, "For the avoidance doubt, your email...". That comma right there between doubt and your there is suppose to be a space between doubt and your. Big companies would never make a mistake like that sending it out to other people look carefully for grammar or and type of misspelled words that's how you will know its a scam as well.

Obvious for some, but not others ...

Thu, 2018/01/04 - 10:39

These grammar mistakes are one indication of this being a scam.

But they are not so obvious for non-native English speakers. I get emails and comments from India, Middle East, Africa and South America asking about prizes.

Those victims cannot detect these grammar and style mistakes.

I also had once a scammer who impersonated an official for the Sultan of Brunei, whose English was nearly perfect. I only detected he was a scammer when I traced his IP address to South Africa.
