bank checks

Tue, 2009/03/17 - 09:13

its a scam because bank checks are very easy to forge. the bank will actually cash them and when the bank discovers that it is fradulent, they will hold you responsible...both finacially and legally. Most these scammers want you to cash their check then send them money back...they'll say things like take the price out and send be back the rest. They are only using you so they don't get caught. A lot of times they take the money and then you never hear from them again. It has nothing to do with your personal info. If they're really ballsy, they will actually have you ship your sale item to them and then resell it on top of the money they scammed you out of. By the time you find out the check is fake, its too late.

Help we replied to someone yesterday in response to what we were selling. same type of buyer unfortunitely we are not Craig's List savy. We gave him all our info. What generally do they do with the info. What is the scam? After reading everyone elses email we realized we can not take a cashiers check etc. Can they take advantage of us with the information we gave them? How does this scam usually play out?

419 Scam Variation

Wed, 2008/09/03 - 12:13

As long as you didn't give them critical ID info like SSI, drivers license #, bank account numbers, passwords and the like I would not worry. Most of these scammers are in another country and well away from driving by your home. There are several sites and groups of people dedicated to thwarting these guys. Google 419 scam and you will get more info than you really want.

craigslist scam

Mon, 2008/07/28 - 17:28

Avoid this guy when you get a response to your craigslist listing:
Todd Ford

and his automatic response:
Thanks for the prompt response. I have instructed my
account officer to mail (overnight) a certified
check, while you hold this item for me. Let me know
when you receive the check and I will have my mover
will come pick up at your place. Please forward me
the following info so I can issue your check . . .

1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address(Physical as Ups does not deliver to P.O.Box}
3.Your phone number.

** Please note that I will overnight the payment, and
you should receive it tomorrow. I appreciate you
holding this for me. Please delete the posting as I
am definitely buying it from you and it would be sad
for me to have the payment in the mail only to be
informed of the its sale**

this person was good

Tue, 2007/08/28 - 11:09

this person ( "Mrs Suzanne Mark" ) made up a fake U.S.P.S email! to fool me into thinking that this whole this was not a scam!the U.S.P.S email address she gave me was "U.S._Postal_Service @usps.com" ..THIS IS NOT A REAL POSTAL SERVICE EMAIL!! this is what the person wrote me:

Thanks for your reply concerning my inquiry . Am located in CA United State. Am quite comfortable with your selling price and condition of the item since I won't be making any repairs on it and I am just willing to offer you $450 including item packaging. Actually I want to buy this item for my step son ( Chico CA 95928) to fulfill my promise I made to him on his graduation day...he will be gradating on the 25th for August, 2007. So I have to get this item for him as soon as possible.

As for the payment i will have loved to pay you in CASH but that won't be possible due to we are not living in the same state, so I don't think that will work out okay? So I will have the (United States postal service) to issue out Money order to you because they are going to deliver your money to you in cash.... Kindly get back to me immediately with his necessary required payment information(name, address, zipcode, state) as to be written on the money order so they can issue out and send you a usps money order in cash. Send the current picture of the item if possible ok. For your information about the shipping, you won't be paying for any shipping charges because I already have an account with FedEx Shipping Company.

Best Regards.
Thx

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS PERSON!!!
