By Khalid on 2006/08/08 - 10:12, last updated 2006/08/08 - 10:12

Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

You are a thief

Tue, 2009/08/25 - 14:36

Family is not an excuse for being a criminal.

You are a thief and a scammer.

What will you tell your kids when you grow up? Can you go tell your father and mother what is your line of business? That you deceive elderly and naive people out of their money? People who may be poorer than you?

Or have you lost all shame too?

Craigs list scam

Tue, 2009/08/25 - 16:13

Beware of the guy on his honeymoon in Hawaii. He wanted to have his secretary mail me a check that was for more than asking. He then wanted to send a mover here to pick it up. I googled his name and this web site was first on the list. Come on when I got married going to craigs list was the last thing on my mind......come to think of it it wasn't even that high.

Sad that every ad I have

Fri, 2009/08/28 - 12:51

Sad that every ad I have placed on Craigslist in the last few months have ONLY been answered by scammers. I only heard from two "real" people from 8 or 9 ads. One scammer I finally answered "are you the SHARK?" No response. Then getting really fed up, I answered 'Tom Williams':

"Tom, how very sad that you would put people through this kind of hell, when life is already hard enough right now.
I suggest you turn yourself in to the authorities and try to make amends somehow to those you have bilked in the past.
You only have one life to live, and it is your choice – when you steal from others, you ultimately steal from yourself.
Thanks."

I know I can't change anything here, but I feel better somehow.

Same type of scam

Sat, 2009/08/29 - 17:06

Said he wanted to purchase item, he was on honeymoon, and wanted to surprise wife. Said check was mailed by secretary. Then said check was accidently sent for to much money, and I needed to take my amount, but be trusted to wire his money. He gave me a name to wire to florida

Here is the last email from terry lonn
Good Morning and how you doing ? I just received the confirmation from
the Bank that the payment has been issued out and was mailed by the
Fedex....... ..It will be delivered to your address this morning according
to the courier, but to my greatest surprise the draft was issued out for my
monthly pay check $3450 instead of the actual cost of my purchase .
The bank claimed that i requested for my monthly pay check to be issued out
to you but am very sure i only made a request for the cost of the goods to
be made out to your name .This is a terrible mistake, and i was just informed
about this so please once the check is delivered please take it to your Bank
and have it deposit then cashed as advised by the accounting officer at the
Bank. You will then deduct the cost of my purchase plus an extra $30 to offset
the cost of your run around expenses.
The rest of the fund should be sent to my mover via Western union the same
day you do receive the payment so that my mover can make the trip over for the
pick at once. **I will need your immediate response via email assuring me that
i can trust you to handle this with care and have the remaining fund returned
appropriately.I hope that your intentions remains noble through out the duration
of this transaction*
