I got this same e-mail...
Sun, 2009/09/06 - 03:37I got this same e-mail... I've never sold anything on Craig's List before so I wasn't sure if this was legit or not. But it sounded fishy. Then I got two messages with the same story from two different guys with two different e-mail addresses with the same story (honeymoon, Hawaii, surprise wife, secretary will handle, etc.) so I decided to Google "Craig's list scam, honeymoon" and found this site.
Just got an ema... (not verified)

Hello, I appreciate your
Wed, 2009/10/14 - 01:20Hello,
I appreciate your response to my inquiry. Am interested in buying
your furniture. I would have loved to come check it out myself but I
just got married and am presently on honeymoon to Hawaii with my
wife. I would love some surprise inclusions in our home on our
return.
Please do withdraw the advert from craigslist as I wouldn't mind
adding $30 for you to do that, so I can be assured that the item is
held for me. I have no doubt that it is in good condition as stated
in the ad. I will be making the payment via a Certified Check, which
my secretary will mail across to you.
I'll be picking the item from you with the aid of a mover. My Mover
will be coming to pick it from you once the Certified Check has been
cashed. Please I will need both your full name and physical address
along with your phone number for payment to be facilitated.
Best wishes.

Posted a couch on Craigslist and this was the reply I got. There were actually two responses, the fist one asking if the item was still available and the second the one above. The first red flag was that he used two different email addresses each time: dr.phil001@gmail.com and dr.phil513@gmail.com. He uses the name "Phil Fletcher." The second red flag was the offer of the certified check, the third taking the couch on face value and the forth took the cake - I read the response you got. I am just so happy I took a minute to research this offer!

Hello,
Thanks so much for your prompt reply.Well sincerely i must say you ve got a nice item and as a matter of fact,In a transaction like this,i believe so much in trust and i will appreciate it if we can put trust first so that the transaction can go smoothly .I would have love to come and take a look and pay with cash then pick it up but at the moment am a kind of too busy to come over, due to out of own on business trip that was why i asked you questions, with trust and honesty i think i can send you a cashier check via Fed ex Or UPS overnight and i have a shipping company that will come pick it up once payment is cleared. The Check will be excess and all what you will need to do is to just send the remaining balance to my Shipper for the pickup payment after deducting your money,if you are ok with this please do kindly get back to me with your full name, address and direct phone number so i can call you to discuss and also proceed with the payment and please do keep this item for me and inform other interested party that its been sold..ok. thanks for your communication and co-operation.Hope you bear with me and get back to me soon.
Sincerely
Lee

Hawaii honeymoon and pays more to have item removed
Thu, 2009/07/23 - 16:28I just got this. He calls himself Frank Billow here but I can't figure out what the scam is. I did give him my PayPal e-mail (but not the password) and my snail mail address and a Googlevoice Phone #. What are they looking for? I noted the similarity with the Hawaii Honeymoon and not naming the article.
Hello,
Thanks for your response to my inquiry. Am interested in buying
your household item on craigslist. I would have loved to come check it out myself but I just got married and am presently on honeymoon to Hawaii with my wife.
I would love some surprise inclusions and replacements in our home on our return, that is actually why i am buying.
Please do withdraw the advert from craigslist as I wouldn't mind adding $50 for you to take it down, so that I can be assured that the item is held for me. I should believe it is in good condition as stated in the ad.
I will be making the payment via a Certified Check, which my secretary will mail across to you.
I'll be picking the item from you with the aid of a mover. My Mover will be coming to pick it from you once the Certified Check has been cashed. Please I will need both your full name and physical address along with your phone number to issue out the payment.
Best wishes.

This Terry Lonn Guy
Wed, 2009/08/05 - 00:38Same exact guy same story. I hope he never gets away with this. We need to do something about it.
Hello,
I really appreciate your response to my inquiry. Im interested in
buying the Item from you. I would love to come and check it myself
but I just got married and im presently on my honeymoon trip to Hawaii
with my wife.I would love a surprise change of furniture in our home
on our return.Pls do withdraw the advert from Craigslist as i dont
mind adding $20 for you to do that, so i can be rest assured that the
item is held for me. I should believe it is in good condition as
stated. I will be making the payment via a certified Check, which my
secretary will mail to you. I'll be picking the item from you with the
aid of my mover. My Mover will be coming to pick it from you once the
Check has been cashed. Pls I will need both your full name and
physical address along with your phone number to issue out the
payment.
Thanks,
Terry
Good day and how is your day ? I just received the confirmation from
the Bank that the payment has been issued out and was mailed by the
courier service. It will be delivered to your address in one day from
now according to the courier ,but to my greatest surprise the draft
was issued out for my monthly pay check $2450 instead of the actual
cost of my purchase .The Bank claimed that i requested for my monthly
pay check to be issued out to you but am very sure i only made a
request for the cost of the goods to be made out to your name .This is
a terrible mistake and i was just informed about this so please once
the check is delivered please take it to your Bank and have it deposit
as advised by the accounting officer at the Bank. You will then deduct
the cost of my purchase plus an extra $30 to offset the cost of your
run around expenses. The rest of the fund should be sent to my mover
via Western union the same day you do receive the payment so that my
mover can make the trip over for the pick at once. **I will need your
immediate response via email assuring me that i can trust you to
handle this with care and have the remaining fund returned
appropriately.I am hearing impaired and will hope that your intentions
remains noble through out the duration of
this transaction**
As soon as you recieve the payment you go ahead and deposit it,then
you will have to deduct the bought item and send the remaining to the
movers for me,as soon as i get in contact with the mover i will
forward you is details so as to do the transfer, pls get bact to me to
know if i can get my money back this is really fustrated and
nerveswracking i can`t sleep and really so worried,
Thanks for your understanding
Terry

Wed, 2009/08/05 - 08:46OMG I have gotten 2 emails from this guy about a bedroom set I put on craigs list. And he is still on his honeymoon, wow...LoL.
He used Terrylonn2dash35@gmail and tylonn1978@gmail. He has told me that he will have his secretary issue me a certified check and he is willing to pay me 20 extra to remove the listing. What a creep. Thanks for posting about this, kept me from getting scammed.
