Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... another scam? how does it work?

Wed, 2013/01/09 - 09:52

Hello

My assistant told me that it's still for sale. I'm fine with paying
your asking price and I can make your payment either by check or money
order because I am currently away on a business trip. I will make the
arrangement for pick-up AFTER you have received the payment. I don't
mind adding a little extra ($30 or so) for any inconvenience this may
cause you. You should receive your payment within 4-6 business days.
The only information I need from you is your full name, cell phone
number, and your address where you'd like me to send your money!
Also,i will appreciate if you can get the ad off craigslist so i can
be sure you are keeping it in my favor .Awaiting your reply. Thank you

Henry Thomas Strikes Again

Fri, 2013/01/18 - 14:36

I too, was contacted by a Henry Thomas to purchase infants furniture I had for sale. He also offered over the sale price to hold it for him. He was not concerned about the condition and would have his assistant send me a check by Fedex provided I contact Craigslist and remove the item from sale TODAY. Subsequent emails then stated he would include the shipping costs and that I was to get a Western Union money order from any Walmart and give it to the shipper when he arrived to pick up the furniture. It sounded like a variation on a scam and this website only confirmed it. I reported to Craigslist and went to my bank who advised that it was likely a counterfeit check.

Greg strikes again!

Sun, 2013/02/17 - 21:50

I'm selling a gift card and I get a very generous email from a buyer who tells me he wants to offer more than the gift card is worth:

Greg M

My assistant will mail out your payment once you provide your full name.phone number and address.I can only pay via Money Order as am on a business trip now,pls let me know where to send your payment to because i wouldn't want to lose it to some else.I don't mind adding ($30) dollars so you can keep it in my favor, you should get your payment in 6-7 working days I will also make arrangement for pick-up which will be after you must have received and cashed the payment. So here was my sweet, sweet reply:

Ok, I live in Storybrooke next to Emma. My name is Mr. Hopper. I look a bit green and walk on a cane. We were all transported from our land to this city called Storybrooke where none can leave. I will send you the gift card through the magic fairies. Your money will help me get back to my land! I thank you dearly! Send me your address and you can pay me in gold coins via USPS.

May the spirits bless you my dear Greg. May you scam until tears of joy stain your handcuffs.

Expect the unexpected

Wed, 2013/02/20 - 08:30

You have to expect these people to be trying to scam you in order to avoid getting screwed. If you never knew these things were out there or this is the first time it is happening to you, you are more likely to get scammed. When in doubt call PayPal and get a live person and ask them if the funds were transferred or if funds are pending. It would be nice if PayPal had live online chat help to assist with these matters. You need to have business sense and read emails carefully. When they leave the business tone and start to take on the personal tones like: when you transfer the money to John Evans we will complete the transaction, this is a sign of fraud. Paypal doesn't write in terms of taking someone's side. You cannot trust people. If you suspect something is wrong hold off on the transaction. You can always send something later. You cannot get your money or item back once it's gone.
