I recently listed a car for sale on craigslist and other local classified ad services.This is one reply I got, which is clearly an attempt at scamming:

Problem is, the scammer is not very smart. I did not posted pictures to begin with, so there are no more pictures. So, I sent this reply:

I intentionally did not attach any pictures. A genuine buyer would have noticed this of course. Instead, the scammer proceeded with the next step, revealing his true intent:

This is a classic scam where a fake cheque is sent to the victim for more than the amount owed, and the difference is to be wired to the scammer.

Fri, 2009/10/16 - 02:51I spent $300 dollars on supplies... i spent so many of my precious hours going to ups stores and drop boxes and getting airway bills, gluing ups labels on envelopes and writing checks that ended up being fake. it took me so much money and time to figure out that TERRY DICK is not gonna pay me back. This is a warning to anyone who may fall for this. He even sent me lists of names and bank info and it was so beleivable untill i realized he didnt want ups tracking me down. send it to a different drop box every time? why? he says just do it. I asked questions and they were not answered. I started to get a fishy feeling and then i googled every little peice of info he gave me and found forums filled with the same things happend to me. ...i dont know if i did anything wrong and i hope to god i dont get in trouble for trying to work for this dick. If he tells you to get versa check program, paper, envelopes, magnetic ink and a printer. Ships you off to a different UPS every time...ITS A SCAM DONT FALL FOR IT

Usually close with "Best Regards" or "God Bless You". Always "white-page suspicious buyers and call the number. I just got this tonight from your Jerri James-Scammer. I called the number and it is disconnected. Here's the email. This dummy used 2 names in his email to identify himself; So, beware of the "Steven J Edwards" fraudulant email.
