  1. Home
  2. Internet Scams and Fraud
  3. Another form of Internet Fraud: Usenet Forsale Scam

By Khalid on 2006/08/08 - 10:02, last updated 2006/08/08 - 10:02

Classified ads on craigslist attract scammers from Nigeria and elsewhere. Here is a recent example when I was trying to sell something. Not that I asked for $375, and was offered more for it.Here is the first message I got:

pls can you tell me if this item is still for sale ?and the price

When I replied it was available, this was the reply:

I will have to inform you that i am okay with the price of the [item name] ($375)condition terms are also okay with me,For the Shippment from your location,i have my SHIPPER as soon as we seal this Transaction from your end. I have a CLIENT of my that is owning me some Fund in United Kingdom that will issue you the cheque of ($2000) soon as you receive the cheque and when cleared you will deduct the cost of the [item name] and the remaining balance will be send to the Shipper through western union money transfer for the pick up from your location. If this is okay by you, do e-mail me the following detail FULL NAME ON CHEQUE:CONTACTED ADDRESS:MOBILE&LANDLINE PHONE NUMBER:AND ZIP CODEI will compensate you $50 to remove the advert from the site and will wait until the cheque clear before the pick up commence.hope to read from you today.

This is a classic scam that involves you wiring them money via Western Union, and they sending you a fake cashier cheque.

This is what they sent me, I

Thu, 2011/07/14 - 01:04

This is what they sent me, I didn't even reply.

Sorry for the late response. Please I don't have time to come have a look cause of my Job transfer, I'll take care of that by engaging the services of a mover hence I'll be sending a check to cover the cost and it'll be delivered via United Parcel Service, so I'll need you to provide me with the following information below to facilitate the mailing of the check, be aware that UPS does not deliver to P.O box addresses..

1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address be it residential or office
3.Your cellphone number.
4.Final Price

I'll have my mover come over for the pick up as soon as you have cashed the check. I'll appreciate it if you take down the ad from CL so as to be rest assured that I'm in hold of the item, I hope to read from you shortly.

Best Regards

Mon, 2011/08/15 - 10:12

Someone using the name Kelly Rachael Daniel with the email address timiakeem01@gmail.com is posting a ad on Craigs List under the wanted section titled *$500 PAID WEEKLY for personal care for her sister that is moving to the area and wants to send the first weeks pay up front but also said in panic got the check wrong and included the Rental Agents fee so could I please just deduct that and wire transfer the money to them once recieved, pretty sure no one in there right mind would ask someone to.care for a family member without meeting them and paying up from I had the email address checked and it is on the scam list for severl different Craigs Lists Ads, using several different names. I told them to shove the check and dont bother with threats, I have already turned the info over to the authorities. Dont get screwed!

craigslist scams

Mon, 2011/10/17 - 11:22

the address that was used in my location was benade122@gmail.com. I wasn't feeling right about this job same as above, and I kept pressuring for a meeting before I would accept the job. Well this morning the fedex man showed up with an envelope with a big check in it and nothing else. about 10 minutes later I received an email with instructions. I feel like this is a game of I Spy or Mission Impossible!! So my next plan is to notify my local craigslist and police department. I hope every one out there is careful. I will never use craigslist again, especially for looking for a job!!!!

craigs list scam-wanting to hire home aide

Tue, 2011/08/16 - 00:50

I answerd a Craigs List ad that was titled $500 Weekly Pay. It was sent from the email address timiakeem01@gmail.com using the name Kelly Rachael Daniel wanting to hire a home aide for her sister who was supposedly moving from PA to TX and would pay $500 a week, asked for my name, address, phone number, to sent my first weeks pay up front, then sent another.email saying she had by mistake added the Rental Agents fee in with mine and I should just cash the check and wire transfer the money to the rental agent. Hello who in the heck would blindly hire a stranger to care for a family member and send them money up front? Note: when something in life sounds too good to be true, it usually is! Dont get sucked in by this person! When I googled the email address it came up on this site with several different names used and several differnt kinds of scams for Craigs List, so beware!
