  3. Another form of Internet Fraud: Usenet Forsale Scam

By Khalid on 2006/08/08 - 10:12, last updated 2006/08/08 - 10:12

Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

I'll add $20 extra for the delay. I'll pay by M O or cashier check so send me your info (i.e full name, mailing address and your phone number) so payment can be mailed out immediately. I will also make arrangement for pick-up which will be after you must have received and cashed the payment. Awaiting your info.

Same wording-same bonehead

Fri, 2012/09/07 - 22:49

I submitted an ad this evening on Craig's List and got the same email you received. Only I recognized it as a repeat performance from someone who responded to a previous post I submitted months ago. I answered him and then blew him off. I typed his email address into google and wound up with you folks and beaucoups posts warning about this guy. Glad I looked. I'm ignoring him again.
Have a blessed evening.

SCAM ALERT "Melanie bailey j" <janejanebailey@gmail.com>

Mon, 2011/09/19 - 00:18

I received these emails from "Melanie bailey j" when I posted a ring for sale on CRAIGSLIST. I was very cautious about giving out any of my information, then I told my daughter about it and she ran the email address on google and this site came up with the same kind of scams with the same email address. Good advice from my daughter about running the email on google.

SCAMMERS FIRST EMAIL:
Thanks for getting back to me.I want to know if there is any
paperwork for this item or receipt.i will not be able to come with
cash and local pick up as i am currently on a mission.i will be able
to make the payment through paypal which is safer and secure for me
and i will add $100 to the cost of shipping via UPS NEXTDAY delivery
to the following address:
TEXAS
Do get back to me if that works for you and provide your paypal email
address to transfer the payment as soon as possible
Regards.
MY EMAIL REPLY:
The only paperwork I have on it is where I purchased the setting and the insurance on it. The stone did have papers but I have moved and can't find it right now. The jeweler told me the ring can be appraised and then it can be insured as a whole. But right now it's just the gold ring, as far as what that warranty does is it makes sure the prongs are tight on the diamond, any straightening of the shape and cleaning and polishing and replacement of the setting itself. To get it appraised it cost 150.00 and with me selling it below its value I was going to leave it up to the new owner to have it appraised that way all of their information would be on it and not mine. And then they could carry the insurance on it. As far as a pay-pal account I do not have one. I don't know anything about pay-pal but could possibly check into it and let you know.
SCAMMERS REPLY:
ok so what is the total?and your paypal emil addresss
MY REPLY:
I'm just so unsure about the pay pal thing is there any other way we can
> make this transaction happen and you can get your ring?
SCAMMERS REPLY:
Thanks for the mail.......its very easy faster and more than safer by
logging on to www.paypal.com and sign up a personal account with them and
get back to me with the email address you used to register so that i can
send the money to your paypal account as an instant cash and you would be
able to withdraw the money to your bank account or credit card so please for
more info kindly go to www.paypal.com and get back to me as soon as possible
if you are really interested in selling the item to me

End of story They did not get my account email nor did they get any money out of me or my personal information. Scammers should just give up espically when it comes to me.
