By Khalid on 2006/08/08 - 10:12, last updated 2006/08/08 - 10:12

Here is a classic scam from Craigslist.They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

I got an email from "Henry

Thu, 2009/07/30 - 12:41

I got an email from "Henry Scott" saying he wants to buy my item, then his name and email changed to "Henry Thomas" he sent me a check for the amount of 2500.00 from a business in Florida. There is a website for the actual business but i still do not beleive it. He told me that his secretary "sent the wrong amount by accident" There is no way any human being can mistake 300.00 for 2500.00 i dont care how uneducated someone is.
My item was to only be sold for 300.00 he wanted me to keep the 300, and deduct another 100 for "my troubles" then wire him via western union the remaining balance to a different person's name in the United Kingdom!! I did cash the check, but i am NOT wiring him any money! This is definately a scam. I will just wait and pray for this to finally be over.
Beware for any emails from henrythomas_01@yahoo.com or henryscott01@gmail.com.

Hello Jona ,
Thanks so much for all the information i got everything sent to my client and the payment should be sent to you as soon as possible i just need to explain this to you if u can help me with and i guess u could......my client will have to
send a check for $4,000 for the Item and the my shipping company together.
>
>
So all u have to do is to Receive this check which will come through Ups Or fedex Courier service and then take it to your bank and get it cashed or deposited and then deduct $800 for the Item and then send the rest to my shipping company via western union money transfer, so as soon as this money is been sent to them they will come to you for the pick up okay..i added an $100 for your running around And the shippers fee is that much coz it is not only for the Item i have other things with the shipping company which they will ship together with the item.Get back to me and let me know if u understand all of the process

This same person with the email tylonn1978@gmail.com emailed me with this note:

Hello,I really appreciate your response to my inquiry. Im interested inbuying the Item from you. I would love to come and check it myselfbut I just got married and im presently on my honeymoon trip to Hawaiiwith my wife.I would love a surprise change of furniture in our homeon our return.Pls do withdraw the advert from Craigslist as i dontmind adding $20 for you to do that, so i can be rest assured that theitem is held for me. My Mover will be coming to pick it from you once theCheck has been cashed. Pls I will need both your full name andphysical address along with your phone number to issue out thepayment. Thanks,Terry

Scam on craigslist

Sun, 2009/08/09 - 13:48

Do not accept anything from this scammer. He uses the address boyu.2000@gmail.com. This person tried to buy an item from me on cragslist a month ago. He gives you the story that he will be buying your itme and sending you a cashiers check for 4000 over the amount asked. He tells you that he wants you to go to a western union to cash the check and send the bulk of the money to his shipper since he so conveinately lived in my home town. You are suppose to take out what you were selling the item for and then take an extra 100 dollars to cover your travel expenses. This person asked for way to much information and I have reported this such crime to the FBI. I was not fouled by this persons attempt. But all should be warned if you come across a story like this one.

3 Craigslist Scammers!! BEWARE BEDROOM FURNITURE SCAMS!

Mon, 2009/08/10 - 13:47

My first time putting up my bedroom furniture up for sale on craigslist. Selling for $980 and specifically stated ONLY CASH!

Received first email from this guy (Alexander Johnson ) who I thought was legit, until his second email and reading other posts similar to his.

Scammer Alexander Johnson:

Hello,
I found your item on craiglist and i m interested and i will like to know if it still available.....Thanks
Warmest Regard
Alexander
====&====
Hello
I m grateful that the item is still available,and thank for quick response and i will like to let you know i will love to make an instant purchase, so please i will love you to withdraw the posting from Craiglist, and for you to know how much i m interested in this, i will like to add $50.00 for taking down the posting from Craiglist so that i can be rest assured that the item is in my possession and i will also like to add that i will be paying via check and it will be overnight payment due to the distance. You don't have to bother yourself with the shipment OK, i will make preparation for that.So i will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check.

1.Your full name 2. Your mailing address (residential or Postal address) 3. Your phone number.

Once again I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping...i will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check. Thanks.
=========

I told him that I will not accept any personal checks just money order or cashiers check, and i think thats what scared him off because he has yet to respond back. I thought it was fishy how he was going to send his "movers" because of the "distance" and how he was going to add an "extra $50" for taking my ad down.

I also received emails from a (Mark Harris ) and (William McCown )

"Hello thanks for the response am happy that you still have it available for sale. Please, I will like you to get back to me with some more closer view pictures of it as I will not be coming over to see it myself because im vey busy with some business transactions at the moment. I will be making the payment as soon as am okay with the pictures I get from you and arrange for the pick up as soon as you have the payment. Please, get back to me as soon as possible. Thanks"

I found those two to be very suspicious because they responded back to me just a few 2-5 minutes after one another. Another thing i noticed was how all 3 scammers used GMAIL. I can't believe how low some people will go. I feel bad for those who have been scammed. ONLY ACCEPT LOCALLY AND CASH!! Good Luck and BEWARE!
