By Khalid on 2006/08/08 - 10:12, last updated 2006/08/08 - 10:12

Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

It's not the email address so much as the content. I got a response from these 'PJ Scott'
jokers and was reassured to find others who have posted the text used. Keep up the good work.

I recently put books on CL and i had a buyer. He wanted me to send the difference to his shipper Gina Ford. The difference was 1,600.00 for books that would only cost 100.00 to ship.

I also got a few of these

Tue, 2009/06/02 - 15:12

I also got a few of these scams, I was trying to get rid of a phone, and I recieved four emails from separate accounts in two days all starting out with some version of

"Hi is item still available?" - If they don't know what they're buying, don't bother.

I suspected it was fishy so I just replied with simple

"Yes" or "Yes it is"

To which was each and every time replied with a tale of how they were buying it for someone overseas, and they themselves were out of town so they couldn't mail it, but were willing to give $80-$150 for shipping.

The emails also had horrendous spelling and grammar.

Craigslist scam

Wed, 2009/06/03 - 20:37

The first email that I received was asking if the "item" (Thought it was odd that he didn't say "stroller" instead) was still available. I responded that it was still for sale.

The second email said:
***********************
Hi,
I have instructed my assistant to send out your payment as soon you provide your full name, phone number and address. I can only pay via money order as am on business trip now,the money order is going to clear from your bank before the pick up. Please let me know where to send your payment to because i would'nt want to lose it to someone else. I dont mind adding fifty dollars so you can keep it in my favor. As for the pick-up, I already have an arrangement for that.Hope is in good condition?
Michael
************************

It sounded odd to me, I was only asking $100, and he wanted to add an extra $50 for a used stroller/carseat ??

After reading all of these posts. It sounds just like a scam. I did not provided any information. I did respond back saying that due to money order scams, I only accept cash, and I ONLY meet in the local police department parking lot (which is actually what I do) since I don't want people seeing where I live. And I said that I would be able to schedule a time to meet after he gets back from his trip, or a time for someone to come on his behalf. I have yet to hear back.

Wed, 2009/06/03 - 22:43

Jack Smith.

Two email addresses:

...After confirming that my item was still available...

2)
That great, thank you for getting back to me.Though i'll be using the services of a mover who will come for the pick up of the item on my behalf all because of my nature of job and shortness of time i Will send a check through my bank to cover the cost of the items. The check will be delivered to you by a reliable courier company within 2-3 working days.
