Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

Another craigslist fraud!

Mon, 2009/08/31 - 19:36

Hello,
Thanks for the prompt response. I am satisfied with the information provided about it at the craigslist. I will love to make an instant purchase, so please do withdraw the advert from Craigslist, I don't mind adding an extra $50 dolls for you to do that so that i can be rest assured that the item is in hand. I will also like you to know that I will be paying via check due to the distance and it will be over night payment. My secretary in the state will issue the check for the payment. I am presently on a business trip and will be back soon. You don't need to bother your self with the shipment. Ok? My Mover will handle that .So I will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check. Name, Address and Phone number
Thanks,
mr.matt.002@gmail.com

**I responded that I was going to verify the check and that I wanted it from a well-known bank (ie. Wells Fargo...) Have not heard back, googled his email address and has been flagged.** BE CAREFUL!

Almost Scammed! I was so lucky I talked to people about this.

Fri, 2009/09/18 - 18:40

Here are some of the replies I received. I was selling a guitar and amp on Craigslist. The email address this person was using is exandoz@gmail.com

1st Reply:

How are you doing? I want you to understand that the transaction is
near completion as my secretary has mailed the payment to you, but
she made a payment of $2030 instead of your actual amount as she
added yours to that of another seller. She thought both items were from
you, so she issued a single payment. I am truly sorry for this error.
Once you have the check, i will like you to cash it, deduct the money for
your item plus $50 for your gas and running around expenses and email
me as soon as you have the check, and let me know that i can trust you
regarding the excess funds being sent to the other seller via western union.
It has really been difficult organizing this transaction during vacation.
Please understand.

Have a nice day.
Ash

2nd Reply:

How are you doing today? Am aware you will receive the payment via
FedEx today. My mover will come over for the pickup as soon as this
transaction is completed. Let me know the best time for the pickup?
Please I want you to have the excess funds wired via Western Union
Money Transfer.
Here is the second seller's information to have the excess funds wired
to via Western Union.

Name......Nestor Botero
City......Sunrise
State.....Florida
Zip-Code...33326

You are to deduct the Western Union sending charges from the excess
funds and get back to me with the following details ASAP.

#Actual Amount Sent After All Deductions.
#MTCN (Usually 10 digits on the Western Union Receipt)
#Sender's Name and Address.

I await your response and I really appreciate your effort towards this.

Regards,
Ash.

Scam for boat

Fri, 2009/09/18 - 19:36

Was offered more than I asked for boat wants to send more than cash check & send remainder to shipping company & take an extra $50 for my time & trouble. Had a feeling it was a scam, so wrote & told him will not accept any money over the ammount of item & he could not take possession till check cleared the bank. Also got a sob story about going through a divorce.
His e-mail address is: Boxer Worthington (boxwort@syfy.com), which after looking for syfy.com found it to be a home page for India News.
Unfortunately, I had given him my address, so now I worry. But I refused to get money to his "shipper" via western union money transfer.

Too Good to be true?

Wed, 2009/09/23 - 11:55

The following is an email which I recieved. I didn't send him any of my info, because it sounded WAY too good to be true, Who buys something before even seeing a real picture of it, and doesn't even question the asking price? Ya right.

Hello,
Glad to read from you and i really appreciate your response to
my inquiry,I'm really interested in buying from you, but I'm so sorry
as i won't be able to come for a look as I'm busy it due to my job
nature and several other family issues i am dealing with at the
moment.i am running through a divorce and this also is taking much of
my time as we go to court almost everyday, and i have my children to
take care of as well as trying to move into a new house and other
stuffs.

Well, I'll keep in touch with my financier to ask him to mail a check
to you and will have a shipping company to come for the pick up as
soon as you confirm to me that you receive the check and it clears
your bank. If this arrangement is acceptable, pls get back to me
with your:

1: FULL NAME
2: ADDRESS
3: CITY
4:STATE
5:ZIP CODE
6:PHONE NUMBERS

Get back as soon as possible i would like to make an immediate
purchase of the item. So i will advice that you withdraw the ad from
craigslist.

Boxer Worthington

O and I would like to thank whoever put the other note about this "Boxer Worthington", I googled him and this came up. It's good to keep others informed, So thanks again!
