  3. Another form of Internet Fraud: Usenet Forsale Scam

By Khalid on 2006/08/08 - 10:12, last updated 2006/08/08 - 10:12

Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

This person is a scammer so dont buy story

Thu, 2010/09/23 - 00:30

I posted an advertisement for a car for sale on Craigslist and this person named Yvette Miller sent an email to suggest her interest in buying my car without seeing it in person. The email she sent is as follows and in her own words:

Hi, I really appreciate your response to my email.I want you to considerit sold, pls do withdraw the advert from Web to avoid disturbance.I want you to know that I will be paying via bank certified check .Ireally wish to be there to check it out but I Don't have chance causeam very busy woman (Nurse). Concerning the pick up, you will not beresponsible for shipping. I have made an arrangement for the personthat will come for the pick as soon as the payment clears. I will likeyou to provide me with the following details to make the payment out:Full name with Full Physical address to post the check, Home & CellPhone.I will be looking forward to read from you soonest. Yvette

The only contact with this person has solely been through email because, despite asking for a telephone number, she refuses. In one day alone she sent 4 emails. My family & friends have warned me against her refusal of giving me a phone number. The fact that she was nice to me in one email only to cuss me out in another email (written on the same day) gave me reason to believe I was dealing with a scammer.

I just wanted to make note of what happened to let others know to be aware. Should you receive anything from ymiller001@yahoo.com please be careful.

More Scammers to add to list

Thu, 2010/09/23 - 09:10

I posted a bunch of things a few weeks ago... I got two different Emails over the past week. One from michsong1982@gmail.com and another from lauriehenkelp@yahoo.com.

Michsong was too busy to come see the furniture and was going to have someone else pick it up and in the mean time send me a certified check with and additional $50. Laurie started off somewhat normal except that I was sort of hesitant when she told me she lived in Ohio. From there it just got worse...her secretary sent me out too much money... money never arrived...then she is now in the UK as of today with a sick son and wants me to Western Union her the overage of money... Yeah NOT HAPPENING!!! Sad though that people who are desperate for money won't think twice before sending these people money. I just hate that my name and address now are with these people. I am seriously considering involving police?? Anyone else have gone to the police upon receipt of these payments?

Thank you!

Heather

Scam!

Thu, 2010/09/23 - 19:11

So this is what I got of arnolddavies006@gmail.com. I know this is a scam and replied he could send the payment by PayPal, offered a extra $30 because he was on 'vacation. His 'assistant' would send me a money order or 430 and then his 'movers' would pick it up:

Hi,
Ok,I'm presently on vacation but I will instruct my assistant to prepare and mail a Money Order which you will receive in the next 3 - 5 business days. I'll add $30 extra for the delay. If this is acceptable by you, Send your info i.e your full Name to cash, mailing Address and also your phone Number so payment can be mail out immediately.I will make arrangement for pick-up after you must have received and cashed the Money Order.
Awaiting your info
Thanks.

craigslist/divinestores scam

Fri, 2010/09/24 - 20:49

Ok, I'm sure it is a scam, but let me get this straight...
They send a money order for more than your asking price, you go to the bank, they determine that the money order is no good, and you don't go any further. Other than the inconvenience of pulling the ad (if you did), what is the actual scam? There must be something missing or else why would they bother? You still have your item and you haven't lost any money. Am I missing something? Do they do something else like use your e-mail address or information?

Yes, what happens is the check goes through and in about 2 weeks more or less when the bank does figure out it was fake, the money gets deducted from your account and by that time, you have sent your item and have no money. They have gotten pretty good at this scamming thing.

Granted its a scam of some

It's simple, the PayPal page they send you is fake, just read it carefully but don't click anything. I have gotton so many and they are simple to catch is a scam,
1 First the spelling is a good give away.
2 They alway's use little i's instead of " I " why I don't know, just stupid I guess.
3 The never mention you actual item, at least not the emails I get.

I am confused as well..... if you find out it is not real and you have your stuff why is it a scam? I would call it a craigslist inconvenience. Are there really people that give up the belongings without cashing the money order? I actually recieved an email from an Ambrose Walker as well inreference to one item I have listed. I have not recieved the money order as of yet but I am not dumb enough to give hime the merchandise with out cashing it first. He too is away on assignment and his assistant is sending the moneyorder but I didn't pull the add off craigslist I just marked it as "sale pending". We will see how it works out.
