Here is a classic scam from Craigslist.They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... After over a month of communicating, we finally received FOUR international money orders for $962.00 each (the item for sale was 100). Do they still come and pick up the item? Unless somebody actually gives them an item, in what way are we being scammed (other than hugely inconvenienced and really annoyed)?
should we be concerned that they know our address??? what do we do with these money orders?

Thu, 2010/11/18 - 11:37I got an e-mail today for my "item" offering me a money order for my asking price plus $30 to take the ad off of craigslist. The set up was perfect, too because I got an initial e-mail from Alex Conrad (conrad.alex94@gmail.com) asking if the item was still available, and when I responded that it was francisconelly@divinestores.org replied with this story about a business trip.
What set my alert up was when they said they were interested in my "item" rather than specifying, and then asking for all of my contact info in order to send this money order which I would receive in "4 -6 working days".
I reported it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) and responded to the e-mail declining any offers and thanking them for their time.
I suggest you do the same

As i do not want to lose this sales to other potential buyers,if you will keep it in my favor,i don't mind adding thirty ($30) dollar for the delay. Pick-up wont be a problem as i already have an arrangement for that once you receive payment.

Mon, 2010/09/27 - 15:57I've received a very similar story. Marvin Clinton says that they're on a business trip, and that their assistant has informed them that my craigslist item was still for sale. They asked me to take it off of craigslist, offered to pay an extra $20 for me to "hold" the item, and asked that I give my shipping info and phone number. So far I have no clue where this guy even lives, and I've been pretty wary of him since e-mail #1.
Now they're saying that their assistant accidentally sent a money order for a different item that costs more than what my craigslist item does, and are asking that I refund them the difference. The biggest tip-off that something was wrong was this line:
"Please, you can go ahead and cash out the Money Order at your Bank when you receive it, deduct your payment and send the balance via western union to the details i will provide you with. Can i trust you to do that for me?"
I dunno about you guys, but saying that they want you to do something via Western Union (pretty specific) to "the details i will provide you with"...sounds pretty shifty! Not to mention the fact that the guy hasn't even mentioned anything about picking up or checking out the item.
THANK YOU for posting all of this here, otherwise I would still just be wary, but not know for sure that it's a scam. Guess that when that money order arrives we'll bring it to the authorities and see what they can do about it.
