By Khalid on 2006/08/08 - 10:12, last updated 2006/08/08 - 10:12

Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

Hi ,
Your payment has been sent but there is something i think i must bring to your notice immediately. I just discovered there is an error in the payment sent to you. My assistant sent the payment meant for another item thats more expensive than yours. I have called the post office to see if they could retrieve it but nothing positive. I really dont know what to do now. Please and Please, you can go ahead and cash out the Money Order at your Bank when you receive it, deduct your payment and send the balance via western union to the details i will provide you with. Can i trust you to do that for me?
Marvin

Now that I know, I'm putting my item back up for sale, and telling this guy to go fuck himself.

Another address to add...

Thu, 2010/10/21 - 19:08

This address is a known scammer: Antak471@gmail.com

This is a second address used by the same scammer: lindamark.mark4@gmail.com

Emailed me using the "lindamark" address, inquiring about my item. Told me would like to purchase. I replied "yes, it's still available". The second reply came from the "Antak471" address with some story about not being able to pay cash but only by mailed check. And could not come by because of work time frame.. yada yada.. Raised flags and did a little research.

I wrote them back a nice, harsh reply. I got a chuckle out of it so.. all is good. :)

Scammer Still Alive and Well - Beware!

Sat, 2010/10/23 - 09:04

Friends:
As of Oct. 22, 2010 this Scammer -- or others like him -- is still operating. Below is a reply to my ad on Craigslist. My item was listed for $375. I routinely get a scam reply to my more expensive items for sale. I will now forward this to a number of Consumer Fraud Organizations.
Beware!

overpay scam

Sat, 2010/10/23 - 13:38

I just got the same thing today 10-22-2010, received an e-mail 2 days ago asking me to consider item sold, and please take the ad off Craigs lists. Today`s e-mail says Whoops, over paid!, go ahead and cash the money order and send the balance Western Union to information that will be sent shortly, I`m guessing the payment will arrive in today/Saturday`s mail. (of course the banks & Post Office will be closed by then) Then, in order to "prove trust" I will be asked to do the WesternUnion refund

Immediately. My first e-mail came from: PAULJESSICA@gmail, 2nd came from: jonathoneric@ divinestores.org
