  3. Another form of Internet Fraud: Usenet Forsale Scam

By Khalid on 2006/08/08 - 10:12, last updated 2006/08/08 - 10:12

Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

Oceanographer scam,

Sun, 2010/10/10 - 17:45

I think it is more than a person who are using oceanographer scam. We were selling furniture and they only want paypal. If I didn't read this site, I would have almost provided my paypal info.

Don't sell anyone who is "in the sea", "out of town", "paypal only". I think it is international scam and it is not easy to trace them.

Please be careful!!!

Craigslist Scam Continues

Thu, 2012/07/26 - 22:11

just got one from

Ben Barrys brccbarr@gmail.com
here's the message: Do let me know if you still have the posted item. I replied: I have other unrestored radios for sale as well. They will be priced fairly and to sell. Whoever this douschebag is replied: Hey

That's great, thank you for getting back to me. Though I'll be using
the services of a mover who will come for the pick up of the item on
my behalf all because I'm currently away for a contracting Job but I
will send a Check through my Bank to cover the cost of the items. The
check will be delivered to you by a reliable courier company within
2-3 working days. Please do provide me with your full mailing address,
and also indicate your final price, the Name that should be on check
and finally a cell phone #. Kindly delete the posting because am
serious in buying it, when the funds clears then we can arrange for
the pick up asap.
This sounds just like the scam you mentioned I am reporting to craigslist and gmai if possible. Ben Barrys is a page designer for Facebook and I doubt he would buy an old radio like this in Roanoke va. I'm blastint his dude then reporting. Thanks for the info whoever posted. What a messed up world sometimes.

Received one from brccbarr@gmail.com today

Sat, 2012/09/29 - 22:54

So I received an email from the same email you reported on brccbarr@gmail.com. What's disturbing is, I do childcare and he responded to an opening with this very detailed email not at all about money, etc...
Good day,

I'm in need of a childcare for my daughter Brittany, 3 years old, she is a wonderful and very bright kid. She is loving, she is well potty trained and cool headed I must say. Please I want to know if you have a space for her from 12-6pm and how much do you charge weekly for the time phrase.

Thanks
Rick Pierce

This is sick! I realized something was wrong when I was replying to the email and a different email appeared in teh 'to' section. Luckily you posted info with his email so I figured this out real quick! I just have to wonder what these people are thinking and why they waste their time with this. My add had nothing to do with payment arrangements, so I'm really creeped out!

Thanks for posting this. I got the same email with very poor english. I thought it was weird, but we get people every once in a while with poor english skills. When I got the second email asking for prices even though the first reply I sent had prices in it I knew it was some kind of scam.
Seriously, who scams daycares?

I am so glad that I researched this email before replying. The grammar and wording of this email was very suspicious. I also received this email in response to a childcare ad on craigslist. These spammers just never stop.

Ad in Craigs List on Childcare

Thu, 2012/10/04 - 08:36

I have received the exact same e-mail for the same character who claimed to be Rick Pierce. Thank God, due to the poor English I suspected that it was a scam so I gave responded with a higher price than I would normally charge. The writer responded and wanted my name and contact information so that he could send me a check. I gave him a fake name and a fake address and decided to persue the matter and see what happens. I am very glad that I thought to check up on him because he seems to be getting around with this scam. I am very glad I never gave him my real information.

In addition the the brccbarr@gmail.com, he has also sent an e-mail from alexa2587@gmail.com.
