Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

car scam

Sat, 2009/03/14 - 09:53

I have been looking for a mini for a while and found this add on craigslist. The same add appeared with different cars and names across the country.
Hi, The car is located in New York(i just moved here with my new job),like i told we will use eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection, so we can both be protected and insured.I just need your eBay ID so eBay can send you the invoice in which you`ll see how to make this transaction. The shipping is free i will take care of it and i will send the car with all the papers
( vehicle registration, warranty papers, transfer papers etc ) i am just waiting your eBay ID to complete the
shipping papers and start the delivery process.
Thanks,
Nicole Donet

Her E mail is nicole_donet@ymail.com
She had a really nice website set up also which has been taken down now.
As soon as I replied the add on craigslist dissapeared and luckily I cought on she kept telling me the same thing and would not let me see the vehicle even after I offered to fly out and pick it up myself. Did end up getting my cooper after all from a more honest person.

Hi,
I am glad it is still available for sale.I am very much interested in
buying your item and i am ok with the price. Can only make payment
by money order at this time b/c i am away on assignment. Please
provide me with your name , address and phone number for payment. It
will be nice if you can send me more pictures , if not its ok. It will
take about 7days for payment to get to you. As per pick-up, I will
make arrangement for the pick-up after payment has been received by
you. I don't mind adding thirty dollars so you can keep it in my
favor. Please take the posting off Craig'slist today and consider it
sold to me. Thanks
Expecting to hear from you soon.
Warm Regards,
A.Lancaster

Scammer from West Africa

Mon, 2009/03/16 - 18:21

I just received an email from a Jane Cook who claimed to work in England and said her husband was a US consulate in West Africa. She wanted to buy my PSP for $80 more than I asked for. I did a little research and found out the husband she said she had was actually a female ambassador. I am pretty sure this is a scam. Be careful of janecook2008@hotmail.com!

Craigslist

chrismarcus133@gmail.com

This is the email i got: This a scam!!!!!!

This is to notify you that your payment has been issued out and you will have it on wednessday, but there was a slight error i guess we can handle with care which do occur, instead of the actual amount for the item,my secretary made out the check for $2500 she claim that was what i requested but she didn't get that straight.

So once you have the check please cash it at your bank and deduct the money for your goods plus $20 for taking down the advert.

The excess fund should please be sent to my mover via western union money transfer, this fund will be use in offsetting the cost of the shipment he as undertaken for me recently.
My movers information to send the excess funds will be provided as soon as you have the payment cashed.
Thanks for understanding

I BELIEVE I CAN TRUST YOU IN TAKING CARE OF THIS
I look forward to hearing from you!
Thank you again
Chris

A scam I'm sure but no one has asked for anything (yet)

Wed, 2009/03/18 - 15:15

I got an email from a Chris Bond (chrisbond2000@gmail.com) offering me an extra $50 ($200 + $50)for my dining room table & chairs that I advertised on Craigslist. The extra $ was for me to wait for the check & to take it off Craigslist. He asked for my name, address, and phone. Like a dummy I gave it to him thinking it was legit. I was to email him when I got the cashiers check and he would send his mover.
Today I got a UPS envelope with a check for $2200 drawn on a legit company in California. I googled the company & called them & they seemed genuinely confused. I am going to just hold the check until I am contacted by whoever?? because I do not understand how this scam works. There is no return address on the UPS envelope. What are they looking for? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
