Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

House for Rent on Craigs List

Thu, 2009/08/27 - 19:05

I just now recieved my Acceptance email from this ad. It read exactly the same except the house was in Louiville, Ky and the names were Bucke and Tina Davies. The rest was exactly the same. Missionary work in Africa,3 Year rental....blah, blah, blah. I knew it was too good to be true. You would think they would change some of the wording. Thanks everyone for helping me "make my decision". :)

Hello, Thanks for getting

Mon, 2009/03/30 - 14:16

Hello,

Thanks for getting back to me and am okay with the price and the
condition and i will like to make an outright purchase of this
particular item immediately because i can see that you are a serious
seller, i anticipate that a cashier check or certified check will be
sent to you via express mail or ups as the mode of payment. Concerning
the pick up, i will be responsible for that and my mover will come
down for the pick up at your location upon your confirmation of
receiving the payment and i want you to remove this item from the ad.
So i will send the payment which will include the pick up charges in
which you will make payable to the mover immediately you receive the
payment to avoid the delay, i have also other packages that will be
picking up for me in the same city of yours which i will like the pick
up to be done with the one am purchasing from you. I will really love
to come for the viewing but due to my work frame and the family issue
for the year that might not be possible and i will like you to provide
the information below so that the payment will be done as soon as
possible:-

1.......full name
2.......full home address
3......City, State & zip code
4......tel#

As soon as this is provided i will let you know when payment is mailed
out and i will update you on when you will receive it, and i will give
you instructions on what to do next..

I hope we handle this in good faith?, and while waiting to read back
from you...Thanks

"Deaf lady" offering more money than I was asking........

Thu, 2009/04/02 - 12:32

A lady emailed me wanting to purchase my items, listed for $400. She said she was out of town for a conference and did not need to see the items and accepted the description and picture I supplied. She wanted me to wire money for the moving expenses since she was handicapped and needed help. She said she was adding $100 to my asking price for my help. She said her secretary would get back to me as soon as the money was deposited into my account for the details on the movers. Per her last email, she said I would need to pay the moving costs from a $3800 check she was going to send me.

I asked for her name and address mulitple times, but have yet to recieve it.

scam email craigslist

Mon, 2010/09/20 - 17:56

received an email from jasonwhites111@divinestores.org

I am selling some tires and rims on craigslist and he is willing to buy them and send a check. When I agreed to sell the items I get this response back:

Hi,
Thanks for your quick mail,Your payment has been sent but there is something i think i must bring to your notice immediately. I just discovered there is an error in the payment sent to you. My assistant sent the payment meant for another item thats more expensive than yours. I have called the post office to see if they could retrieve it but nothing positive. I really dont know what to do now. Please and Please, you can go ahead and cash out the Money Order at your Bank when you receive it, deduct your payment and send the balance via western union to the details i will provide you with. Can i trust you to do that for me?
Thanks

Beware of this email address. The name he used was Jason Smith, common name I guess. His email address is divinestores.org I got this site putting this information on a search.

"Neil Schaeffer" strikes again (or tries to)

Sun, 2009/04/05 - 01:10

Just rec'd a "too good to be true" instant response on a vintage item I listed on Craigslist. The guy's weird language and request to take the ad down prior to payment raised a red flag, so I did some research on the name (he emailed me from 2 diff accounts - yahoo and gmail), and found this forum. Clearly fits the pattern, here's his email:

"Thank you for the quick response. I would love to purchase the item as soon as possible, but I am busy with work and will not be able to come in person. The pictures will suffice for now. I buy used items and resell, so any item bought will ultimately be retouched. So what is the final price? Hence if it is agreeable to you provide me with the following info and the final price so as to send a check:
Full name
Phone number
Delivery address(UPS does not do P.O boxes)

So once you cash the check, the item will be picked by my mover.
Do honour my committment by removing the ad posted on the site.

Have a lovely day.
Schaeffer."
