Craigslist Scammer- Anny Bell
Sun, 2009/06/21 - 10:53Thank goodness you all took the time to post comments... I was selling a binding machine and have been corresponding with a woman calling herself Anny Bell (anny.bell1000@gmail.com) who said that she had recently moved and that her movers would be delivering the check and picking up the binding machine. After several communications via e-mail (including her asking for my full name and address), she sent me this note:
Hello ,
I just receive the confirmation from the Bank that the payment as
been issued out and was mailed by the UPS courier but am very sure
that you will receive the payment very soon but
my secretary made a little mistake which we are still looking forward
to settle but never mind to bear with the situation , she made a
mistake by sending along the mover funds i owed them in the last
transaction we had, so the total you will be receiving now is
$1,900,she claimed that she thought i said she should send you a check
of $1,900,But i guess she didn't get it straight. But that should not
disturb our own transaction, but i have called the bank not to stop the
payment, that you will surely take care of the money the way you can
handle your own money, please take the check to your Bank and have it
cashed as advised by the accounting officer at the Bank.
You will then deduct the cost of my purchase plus an extra $100 to
offset the cost of your run around expenses. The rest of the fund
should be sent to my mover via western union
the same day you receive the payment so that my mover can make the
trip over for the pick
at once. Also i want to inform you that UPS have a technical problem
and that is why there is
a delay on my end but with the patient you have everything is going to
be in order as soon
as possible.
**I will need your immediate response via email assuring me that i
can trust you to handle
this with care and have the remaining fund returned appropriately,.I
am hearing impaired
and will hope that your intentions remains noble though out the
duration of this transaction**
Thanks.
HUGE scam if i have ever heard of one... Beware!

smells like a scam....quacks like a scam....maybe it is?
Mon, 2009/06/22 - 00:27so I have an item on Craigslist here in Seattle and am getting these letters back from someone who will not provide me with their phone number.
Hi ****,
Your payment has been sent but there is something i think i must bring to your notice immediately. I just discovered there is an error in the payment sent to you. My assistant sent the payment meant for another item thats more expensive than yours. I have called the post office to see if they could retrieve it but nothing positive. I really dont know what to do now. Please and Please, you can go ahead and cash out the Money Order at your Bank when you receive it, deduct your payment and send the balance via western union to the details i will provide you with. Can i trust you to do that for me?

Thu, 2009/06/25 - 09:15Definite Scam. Sorry.
Just like every other scam described in all their glorious details here, this is just another variation on a theme:
1) Error in payment
2) Plea for you to help them and preying on your "trust"
3) Orders to send them the excess by Western Union, when all they gave you was a check. (Trust me, that "check" they send you is neither a Cashiers or Certified Check - it is the same thing any one of us can whip up on our own printers.)
4) Very specific instructions on how you are supposed to handle the overage. (Really, if you accidentally sent a check for the wrong amount - would you ask your seller to jump through all these hoops? Would you automatically know all these steps they should take, and be able to rattle them off in an email?)
No - these are never innocent people. They are folks in Nigeria and Uganda, who apparently have teams of people scouring Craigs List all over the U.S. day and night. They may send out a thousand emails, and if they get 50 of us trusting enough to respond - they hope to get 5 of those who will carry through and send them the ("excess") money. Not a bad day's work, I guess, scamming us stupid Americans.

I'm so glad you posted
Thu, 2009/06/25 - 23:08I'm so glad you posted this!!!! I almost fell for this exact scam until I googled Robert and Jennifer Luckadoo and this site came up. I got the exact same email (except that no matter how many times I asked he never included the house number, and we were asked to pay a $300 deposit seperately) He told us to send $750 to an address in Nigeria and he would send us the keys to the house. I saw this just in time to cancel the money gram. You don't know how much you helped my husband and I by posting this.

James Scott - how the scam works
Wed, 2009/06/24 - 21:58They reel you in with a sob story. You believe it. You give out your name and address. They send you a bogus/fake/forged/otherwise not-real payment voucher. You deposit it into your bank account. The bank will often post the funds within 24 hrs, especially if you have the funds to cover it. Then you send the balance via wire to the recepient via the instructions you recieved. Since it is a wire, your bank deducts the funds immediately, and poof, your money is gone from your account. Then the check they sent you bounces and you have to repay it to the bank so they deduct the amount necessary to cover the bad check, plus fees...and that is the scam... they convinced you to part with your money willingly.
