I recieved this E-mail:
Hello,
Thanks for your prompt reply.Well, i must say you ve got a nice item and as a matter of fact, In a transaction like this, i will appeciate it if we can put trust first so that the transaction can go smoothly.
I would have love to come by with cash and pick it up but at the moment am a kinda of too busy to come over,so i think i can send you a cashier check via Fedex Or UPS overnight and my shipping company could come pick it up once payment is cleared. The Check will be in excess and all you will need to do for me is to just send the remaining balance to my Shipper after deducting your money,if you are ok with this pls do get back to me with your full name, address and phone number so i can proceed with the payment and pls do keep this item for me and inform other interested party that its been sold..ok
I'm glad I checked this site 1st!!!!!

a painter scammed me on CL
Mon, 2009/06/29 - 11:12Great Site.. I didn't think of browsing the internet for such a thing. I've been dealing with craigslist ppl for a while. I posted my appartment for a transfer of lease, and a gu contacted me to rent it to his daughter who lives in England and who's planning on moving to Canada.. He had terrible English, he said he wants me to reply urgently, and he asked me to pay the extra ballance of 2000$ to his daughter's travel agent :) and offered me 50$ for that.. Well.. Funny. I knew it was a scam. I wish I kept the e-mail to share it with you guys. Well, I knew about this one but then I felt for the other scam.
I was looking for someone to do some painting and floor sanding job. A guy met me, took 400$ deposit, brought 175$ worth of paint, then never showed again. He's not picking up his phone, and I only have his name and phone#.. What can I do.. How can I proceed to get my money back?

Tue, 2009/06/30 - 00:37Unknown to me - My 16 year old son was selling an engine on Craigslist for $100.00. Got pretty much the same baisc email of interest as previous posters. He received a check today for $2200.00 drawn from the account of Southwestern Services in Fort Worth, TX. The bank on the check, Worth National Bank, has been out of business for several years now. I called Southwestern Services (found them on the Internet) and they verified for me what I already knew - it was a scam.
In the UPS package there was a note to email payeeverify_consultant@yahoo.com to verify the legitimacy of the check. They never responded to my email. Then the address to send the engine to was invalid (I checked the USPS.com site).
The guy's name is Thomas Peter and email address is terryjj001@gmail.com.
Lesson learned for my son.

i got reverend james gomes and another guy about a month ago
Fri, 2009/07/03 - 08:54They both want pictures and the last known quality of the product. They aren't gonna send cash which I know isn't right in the first place. The guy that I had a few months ago started getting very short with me in emails when I started questioning him, but I don't remember the email address he used or his "name." When he got extremely rude in one email, I said that I'm not comfortable selling to someone not local that's not giving me cash, he stopped emailing me. I'm not sure about this Reverend James Gomes, but here's the email:
From: "Rev James Gomes" davidgomes@btinternet.com
Hello, How are you doing today? Guess fine I will like to know if this item is still available for sale if yes please kindly get back to me with the last asking price of the item and probably a picture.
Regards,
Rev. James Gomes
I wrote back asking if he was a serious buyer, which now that I read all these posts I'm assuming not. Just wanted to give anyone that gets an email from him a heads up that this guy is a scammer.

Thanks for the prompt response. I have instructed my
account officer to mail a certified
check (overnight), while you hold this item for me. Let me know
when you receive the check and I will have my mover
will come pick up at your place. Please forward me
the following info so I can issue your check . . .
1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address(Physical as Ups does not deliver to P.O.Box}
3.Your phone number.
** Please note that I will overnight the payment, and
you should receive it tomorrow. I appreciate you
holding this for me. Please delete the posting as I
am definitely buying it from you and it would be sad
for me to have the payment in the mail only to be
informed of the its sale, also am deaf and will like to be contacted via email**
I listed a 5 piece waterbed bedroom set on craigslist, maybe I should have completed the deal, it would cost more for the movers than the set is worth.
