By Khalid on 2006/08/08 - 10:12, last updated 2006/08/08 - 10:12

Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

Note how they can't pick up proper English names? I got another from 'ortega hanson'.

I almost fell for this today!

Thu, 2009/07/09 - 15:24

I can't believe it! I was just exchanging email with them this MORNING! Thank you so much!!! They pulled the same exact crap with me. They wrote the check for me and expected me to wire it back to them! Then they sent me this bogus material for their website that I traced back to a mock website by another web design company. In their version of the scam for me, they called themselves "Mountain Group Suppliers" and "Tatrina Johnsons" was Roy's secretary or something..all I know is that I'm not falling for it.

So I decided to check it out online and discovered that this was a common scam. Don't these people learn, I sent him (her?) a nasty email back. Go ahead and come here I'll give you piece of my mind you worthless dog!

Received this same one

Mon, 2009/11/23 - 07:31

I received this same one. I have a van up for sale on Craigslist and this person offered to buy it for the full amount without even seeing it. I am usually pretty quick sniffing out the scams, but this one almost got me. Same a@@hole. Here is a copy of the email.

Hello,
How are you doing ? I just want to bring to your notice that
my secretary just mail me in less than 10 minutes that the check mailed to
you was carrying the sum of $4,700....So all i want you to do is that
immediately the check reaches you,go to your bank and have it
cashed, remove the money for your item and have the remaining send to
my shipping and insurance company via western union money transfer
because they have another item to pick up for me in your location
(1996 AWD Subaru Imprza )..the money for the shipment was issued together with
yours...So i will like you to deduct $100 for the running around in
getting the check cashed i mean for your running around. Please do let me
know if i can trust you with this transaction and don't forget to get back
to me soon as you receive the payment so i can contact my shipping
agent at once. Moreover am very sorry for the late transaction all the
fault from ups And i will get back to you soon with the tracking # to
track the package
immediately when i receive it from my secretary.{PAYMENT IS BASED ON TRUST }

Best Regard

Thanks

Interesting how not once in the emails he used my name or gave his/her name. Grammer is horrible in some cases and to TRUST was the biggie. These people should be ashamed of themselves.

I haven't been scammed by this guy. . .yet. He seems kind of shady. Can anyone else confirm this scam for me? So far, he offered me more for my furniture to take the craigslist ad down. I did, but I have surrendered my furniture yet and now I'm thinking about it.
