Here is a classic scam from Craigslist. They offer to buy your item you advertised via classified for more money than you ask for ($375 in my case, he offered $500).They even give you a bleeding heart story about wife dying in accident.

From: ike derico Alright,i live in North Georgia United State.Am quite comfortable with the condition of the item since i wont be making any repairs on it,i will like to offer you $500 including packing materials without you paying for any shipping charges b'cos i already have an account with FedEx,i would have loved to make the payment in cash and carry but we are not in the same state so i will like to go ahead with the payment by sending you a Money Order But i will need your contact infomation in which the money will be deliver ok.I wonna buy this [item name] for my step son to fulfill the promise his mum made before she died,i lost my lovely wife to an auto accident on 29th of June 2005 and since then i and her step son john have been living seperately and i want to buy this item for him because his mom promised him before death took her away from us and i think with this i and tobi can live as a family. Kindly get back to me immediately you receive my e-mail and i will like you to take it off craigslist for auction cos am serious in buying it.So let me have your full infomation ofr pyment to be made.... Best Regards. .I.Derico

re: INQUIRY ABOUT YOUR BIKE!!!!

Thu, 2009/09/24 - 00:52

Our scam correspondence was also almost word for word - right down to the 4 exclamation points in the subject line! Unfortunately my husband isn't scam savvy and gave out our name and address.

Our scammer used the following information:

James John
jmsjohn10111@gmail.com

I hope this ruthless scamming dirt bag enjoys hell.

I too received this email

Sun, 2010/12/05 - 16:28

I received an email almost identical to this. Some how the creep got my cell phone number and has said that he is going to call the FBI and local authorities on me b/c I have his money. The check I received isn't from him, it's from a company in California. I called the company and they said that someone is using their company name and sending out fake checks. Anyone know what I can do about this?

Craigslist Scam - Seller to pay buyers shipping before pmt rec'd

Fri, 2011/05/20 - 14:53

This just happened to my husband. We are in Vancouver, BC, Canada. A girl called 'Liana' actually came to view the item he was selling. She confirmed a few days later that she would like to buy it, but said she was 'at camp' so she needed to pay through paypal.

Here are email addresses and emails we received:

Liana Rose: sweetyankeey@gmail.com

Oh..Am presently in camp and the mover have been requesting the payment via western union money transfer and not paypal,in other not to delay the transaction i decided to make the deposit into your account so we have this transaction completed on time?kindly let me know when you will be able to have it sent.

"service@paypal"

My name is Richard Wilson. I'm a PayPal representative in charge of your transaction with Liana Rose(sweetyankeey@gmail.com).

Regarding your question,You will need to have the pick up cost sent to the moving company and reply us with the details of the transfer for verification so has to have the total sum of $4550 reflected in your paypal account and then be transfer to your bank account once we receive the MTCN or Scan receipt.Do get the money sent out today so that your account could be credited. Here is details to have the money sent.

Lakesha Boyer
162-168 regent street,

We thank you for being an asset to PayPal and we hope to serve you better in the nearest future.

Sincerely,

Liana Rose, Craigslist scammer

Thu, 2011/05/26 - 03:56

I live in Vancouver and am currently trying to sell a bed on Craigslist and the same Liana Rose contacted me about the bed and I have had the exact same correspondence as the previous post. Most of it word for word. As of today, I recieved several emails from "Liana" with the Paypal reciept, wants money ($400) sent via Western Union, etc...it's a bit disconcerting to know that this person actually went to a house in Vancouver prior to trying to scam. Well, enough said for now. See how long they send me emails.

Same SCAM

Mon, 2011/06/13 - 13:25

This Liana Rose has tried to scam me on my piano as well... what a piece of work... I called her out on the scam and she replies

"What do you mean by that...hope you receive message from PayPal that i have deposit the sum of $1050 into your account and these can not be reverse back to my account as PayPal rules is concern cos both of us have agree to use PayPal as a mode of payment and we have to complete the transaction which i have done my own part and i believe anyone who fail to comply with there rules we face legal action?? "

LEGAL ACTION FOR NOT TAKING SOMEONE'S MONEY!? (She said she put $1050 in my paypal here, but the first email said she put in $1500. She can't even get her numbers straight!)

I checked my paypal online before any of this and of course there is nothing. Any money transfers through western union are a total scam.

I wish they'd get off craigslist. Makes it harder for everyone
