Hello
Great. My assistant told me that you still have the item for sale. I am willing to pay your asking price,You will receive your payment in 4-6 working days,i would have loved to come and see it in person but due to the busy nature of my job that wont permit me,i will be making payment by money order or check and i will be needing your phone number, full name, address or p.o box address to make the payment to as i do not want to lose this sales to other potential buyers,if you will keep it in my favour,i dont mind adding thirty ($30) dollar for the delay.pick-up wont be a problem as i already have an arrangement for that once you receive payment.

Can't figure out the scam? Is he money laundering? If so, this is the most inefficient way to do so with such small increments. Is there any authority to whom one could report this scam? I responded to him asking for his contact info (bank info) so that I could "reimburse" him. haven't heard back...

Boat scam
Fri, 2010/09/10 - 10:42Found a nice "2003 Grady-White 257 Center Console" boat for sale on craigslist for $7,400. Too good to be true as that boat is valued at approximately $30,000 used in good condition. I e-mailed the guy -- Henry Pelletier pelletier.henry@gmail.com -- and here's the reply that I received:
My Grady White 257 CENTER CONSOLE boat is still for sale, manufactured in 2003 with no problems at all. Has 138 hours of easy use, a Yamaha engine and my final asking price is $7,400 including the trailer. This boat is turn-key ready. I hate to see it go but right now my wife is pregnant and sometime next month our baby will be born and we want to be prepared for everything that may come. Currently we are at her parents in Topeka KS as this is a very important moment in her life. I will not be able to deal in person. But I've already arranged the shipping and the title transfer anywhere in the US. If interested to buy please let me know any other info you want to know about the boat. Below you can find a link with some pictures:
Awaiting your reply.
Regards,
Henry
Since it sounded too good to be true (unrealistic price), the broken English, the emotional "baby" story, refusing to meet in person, located very far away, free shipping (on a boat!), yadda, yadda, I decided to do some some quick research. Found the same ad (or variations of it) all over craigslist for multiple cities across the USA. Did a quick search on Google and found the EXACT same boat on eBay which had (legitimately) sold for $29,000 several days earlier. The scammer simply grabbed a listing off eBay and posted it on craigslist as his own, complete with photos. I'm sure the next step would have been for me to mail the scammer a check for $7,400. These guys are VERY sneaky. The sad thing is at first I really wanted to believe it was real even though I suspect it was a scam. Even after his crazy e-mail I still wanted to believe it. Thank goodness for Google! And thank goodness for my common sense!

scammed as well
Fri, 2010/09/10 - 15:52I was scammed from this email address as well brandonrodrigue@gmail.com. In fact it was the SAME email as the post on 8/29/10! I did NOT cash the check. my husband was trying to sell speakers on craigslist and he offered 100 more than our asking price then his partner got in a horrible accident. 3 days later we got the check and it was for 4500 and he was asking us to pay for someone to come and pick up the speakers. I was weary of him from the second email! I called the bank that the check came from and they said the account was closed and that there was nothing they could do about it. and then when he asked us to send the western union check to a certain address I looked up the address and it was for sale so I called and made them aware that it was a pick up site for scams. I just don't get why people would do this and try to fuck people like this. I mean 4500?! SERIOUSLY!!! I just thank god that I didn't cash it!
