Here is an email I got today:
The pilot to my water heater has shut off for no reason. It won't stay lit, even when I attempt to light it. The type is a Kenmore Mixer 6.Please get back to me asap, and tell me if this is a serious problem or if it is a minor detail that can be fixed at home.Thank you for your time,Fernando D.
Probably because of my post on Fixing a Sears Kenmore Water Softner.

REPLACED THERMOCOUPLE
Tue, 2009/06/23 - 16:41I ALSO have a power miser 6 that is less than three years old and I hate myself for buying from Sears.I have to pay $50.00 extra to have it to me in 3 days. Why would a part go out so soon and then have to order it and not be able to find it anywhere.Sears sucks and I knew it and I am the idiot for buying from them

water heater
Tue, 2009/06/23 - 19:37After reading all these posts;I called to cancel my order for the thermocouple.I had only placed the order two hours ago.I had to expedite the order because it would have taken seven days to get to me.Sears would not cancel the order and said when I received the part I could return it for a refund but the expediting fee would not be refunded.I want EVERYONE TO KNOW that Sears is not like it use to be and NOONE should buy from Sears anything !!!!!!!!! If there is ever a class action lawsuit,I want to be a part of it. !!!!!!!!

Fixed My Powermiser 9 in 30 minutes (for now anyway)
Fri, 2010/05/14 - 21:36When I got home from work today there was no hot water. I went down to the water heater and tried to start the pilot but like all of you it would light up but would not stay lit when I released the pilot button and let it return to its normal position. If there was an oxyegen issue inside the combustion chamber, then I should be able to take the burner out of the heater and put it together on the outside temporarily. (don't try this unless you know what you are doing though). I had a fire extinguisher right along side of me. I fired up the pilot light and let the button go and the pilot stayed lit and the burner fired up just fine. My conclusion is all of you that said there was an oxyegen issue with the sealed combusiton chamber are correct. I will monitor it and let you all know how it goes. I am going now to take a hot shower!!!

I have this same problem
Thu, 2006/07/20 - 20:28I have this same problem with my kenmore water heater. the pilot will not stay lit and it shuts off for no apparent reason. I have called sears to come look at the problem and they state it would be a "month" before someone can come look at it! I guess no one gives a s*** I will have no hot water for a month!

I'm having the same problem
Sun, 2008/05/04 - 14:48I'm having the same problem with my 2-1/2 year old power miser 6. Sears doesn't even list water heaters on their parts website.

You'll be (un)happy to know
Sat, 2008/08/02 - 19:48You'll be (un)happy to know that it works the same way in Europe, but sadly mine only laster 18 months before it succumbed to this. Did you find somewhere to source parts from?

How I fixed it
Mon, 2008/05/12 - 15:39My pilot lite just shut off as well. It would lite but would not stay on. Replaced the thermal coupler as well but no change. Come to find out that right below the pilot flame is a little hole that allows airs to feed the flame. The hole was clogged and filled with lint. I just cleaned it out and everything is working fine.
